i think its funny how people say if your new at driving go for something with shit all power and learn to drive. why? the first time i drove was in a 500bhp v8 and i did fine. i suggest to learn in a highpowered car then you learn to control it better. you know you can drive a fast car slow

    I agree, but disagree.

I don't think that there is enough common sense and DEFENSIVE DRIVING skill in today's younger drivers. It is getting worse and worse out there every day I drive, I see more near misses and stupid fucking maneuvers

My first car was a Nissan Sunny wagon (1200cc) and I will admit that I used to drive like a fucking moron in it. So on that point, yes you can do the wrong thing in underpowered cars too.

However, my Nissan Sunny was not capable of breaking traction easily, accelerating too fast or being able to exceed 140kph.

So on that point, it was safter than a 500bhp monster.

I for one totally agree with the P plater laws

yer the P plate laws are a good idea, that may be because they didnt effect me

the only way to learn how to control a car in an emergency slide, is by putty it into a slide and seeing how you get out of it. but thats called hooning.

society these days is all about "driving slow will reduce accidents" sure it will, untill some kid trys to drive fast and doesnt know his limits, or the cars limits, and puts himself into a tree because of the lack of experience in these circumstances. which is what is happening it seems.

but its the same deal with everyone, if a 40yr old soccer mum hits an oil slick, and the back end kicks out, they endup spinning around into a fence. rather than knowing countersteering measures and emergency actions. had they had been forced to slide around a skid pan for a day or 2 it may have been different since they may have some experience in the back kicking out.

ppl need to be taught how to drive a car in all conditions. not just slow ones.

funny thing is how on your rego sticker it sais "are you prepared for the unexpected" when it would seem that 95% of the population isnt. we are just taught to drive slowly and hopefully crash into things slowly, rather than knowing how to avoid them when they occur.

good point Nick I suppose most younger drivers these days shouldn't be behind the wheel of any car.

Problem is most of them haven't been taught to drive properly. With the amount of hours they have to do on their L's these days they forge pretty much all their hours and barely any get proper driving lessons. Most of their folks probably have bad driving habits they pass on to their kids and the problem only multiplies. If you ask me all learners must learn to drive a manual to get their licence, I mean just about anyone can drive an auto. My first car was a '91 Civic, second an '03 XR6 (which I currently have for sale) and now an AE86, all manuals and am so glad I chose it over auto because I have driven autos and found you care so much less about what's going on around you as you have less involvement with the vehicle.

And yes an F22C or F20C would be nice but bloody expensive and alot more work than a 20V or smallport 16V.

was a budget mentioned for engine conversion?

^ i get into a auto equipped vehicle and drive slow, i get into a manual equipped vehicle and do skid. auto is less tempting. if i drove in australia like i do in japan i definitely would not have a licence anymore.

when i was about half way threw first year of Ps i was doing ~100km on a 100km limit back road. got caught by unmarked car andd lost 3 of 4 points. does this seem right? maybe, maybe not.

i admit i drive like a wanker, i drift, sit on speed limiter, do elevensies at traffic lights etc have i to date killed anyone? no. have i written off a car? no, have i hit another car? no... i have minorly injured another person but not while being a idiot 100% pure innocent accident.

in australia i saw the fully licensed business man 25~40 as the biggest dangers on the road in australia. many seem to have to bust there balls to get home 5mins earlier so they dont miss the start of home and away and are always running late to get to work. these people take unnecessary risks with overtaking maneuvers, erratic acceleration and braking. next class of people who i saw as common dangers is young women 17~22 (and i believe they are much worse then guys) typically seen in small cars such as hyundi excel, lazers etc

Not to mention the elderly. I see more and more bad driving coming from elderly due to bad reactions and misjudgments. Another group is the soccer mums who speed around in their massive 4WD's or station wagons trying to get home or to school to pick up their kids as fast as possible.
