Fuel Consumption 4AGE

Hey Peoples, My Rolla has suddenly started Drinking a lot of fuel. I do not thrash this car and just use it commute too and from work. I’ve recently started getting strong fuel fumes while driving and I only got 120ks out of my last full tank. I haven’t had time to have a good look yet but my first guess would be that my air censor is faulty. Car is overdue for a service but I don’t think that is the issue. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what I should be checking first?

120/tank! definately not good.

i get 10L/100km pretty much. and i dont really drive that slow...but not thrashing it all the time.

first step is engine diagnostic.

My car was running uber rich and turned out to be the water temp sender (green one on back of head)

i think the code for that sender is 22, but have a google to find out for sure.

if the engine diagnostic comes back good (no errors) then fuel pressure is another one to look at, make sure the regulator is working well and that the vac pipe hasnt come off.

also make sure your airfilter isnt full of crap, that can increase fuel usage, but prolly not as much as you describe....

dont have a fuel leak?

I get 10k/l city driving plus more on highways around 12-13.

i'd really be looking for leaks, i don't see how an ebngien can burn that rich to get such terrible economy, i don't think the engine would run and if it would you'd be down on so much power, look everywhere for leaks, from injector seals to little cuts in hoses

found a leak at the fuel filter, couldnt see it leaking b4 but was pissing out today.... thanks guys
