cheers for all the feedback guys.! it would be great to sit in yours Sam, thanks for the offer! 7kg fronts and 5kg rears sounds like the go for sure though, feels like somethings gonna break like you say Lawrencelalot. and like you said David i think i will go 4 kg in the daily, a little stiffer but still comfortable. thanks again guys.

I hope you have some smooth roads there though, there are no other cars in your area you can try? maybe do a post in your section of the forum?

no not at all, they are full of pot holes etc. there are a few guys that live around my area sam (stx-16) is one of them and like he said he has 7 up front. do you have 4.9kg in the front of yours Sam? i thought you ment you had them in the back. iv also got a heavier engine in my sedan so i thought 7 would be the go up front, a bit more drivable than 8 but still stiff.

very stiff.. Yes I am running a 4.9 front and a 4 back which I want to change to a 3.5kg in due time. I will write something about this subject in due time. With these stiff rates I am sure many people think their faster because their leaning less but in reality their not at all.

i have 6kg in the front of my car, and i reckon its still to stiff for daily driving. its ok on main roads, but as soon as you hit crapy old roads, pain in the ass (litterally). though it does appear to handle quite well, but is a tad on the annoying side if you arent hitting corners like a race car driver.

i had 8kg for a while, and that was even worse, no compliance at all for the suspension to work. great for drift i guess, but not much good for goin around corners fast.

the plan for my sedan is a drift car that i can track and learn to slide at a reasonable skill level. i will be engineering it and keeping it all street legal and would like to still be able to grip drive it on the street at reasonable speeds without killing my ass/back like you said Dave. at the moment its not registered but i have taken it for a few drives in the hills out the back of where i live and the spring rates are one of the many things im unhappy with.

it would be really good to sit in a few different cars with different rates to figure out what rates i want to go as i have relatively little experience compared to many people on this forum. maybe i will get some 4-5 kg front springs for my daily before i change the rates in the sedan so i have some time to see how i like it.

    end rant.

Spoke to an 86 nut (older bloke) a few years ago who had done very extensive mods to his car including IRS and he told me for every time you double your spring rate you should triple your chassis rigidity. Does this sound right to you Sam? I have been in an AE86 with 8 front/6 rear and it was poo. I will be starting at around the 250lbs/in mark when I get around to zapping up the coilovers for the front of my van. Rear I'm still not sure on because the mounting position is still undecided, if I end up able to have a long enough free height I will run a softer spring somewhere around the 180lbs/in mark.

With the 7kg in the front of my car it is extensively braced and will be caged soon, and runs R compound tyres. The car uses all of its stroke.

I ran 240 pound in my daily, which was fine.
