    Default I need advice.....

    Hey,

Well over the past month I have been looking over what I want to do to my car to have it complete, as it was my first car many hours of work and misled cash has ended me with a modified 86, but there is still a long way to go. If I was to go back, I would have spend my cash more wisely and ultimately building what would be closer to my idea of MY perfect 86. But taking the other path, it has been a big learning curb of finding out all about the car, which has all been awesome because I wouldnt have learnt so much from it.

I'm at the point where I can decide to throw another $6000+ to do the things I want to at it (coilovers & other suspension, cage, seats, steerer, repairing & new bodywork) and be content with what I have completed, though movement for engine is always a massive issue. I know I wont get that money back and as it is my daily driver it is so hard to take off the road, especially when your work is 50k's from home and you start at 6. I also hate the fact that I would have to rely on friends and family to get me from point A to point B in these times, which I already hated doing after rebuilting the engine for the second time.

The next point is my other option, which I may get grilled from nissan haters....hint hint.

I have been on the search for a 180sx type x which I want to be clean and stock, just as I picked up the 86. From a fresh base, I would have a clear plan......wide wheels, low coilovers, seats and I would be nearly satisfied. If anyone has seen Nigel Petrie's red 180.....thats something I would base one on if I got one. Obviously it wouldn't be as crazy as his, but its just an example and want to keep it clean and simple. If anyone hasn't seen it heres a link:

Again If I sold the 86....brought a stock type x and slowly brought up parts I would have to spend around the same money...maybe a little more as I would getting the 86 to the shape I would like it to be. I have taken into account insurance running costs etc. and im pretty satisfied with that side of it. I've always wanted to get into something that is a little more 'updated' and has a bit more power aswell. Again to make my point clear, this is going to be my daily.....with a run around the gor, twistes every chance I can

Its been an absolute headf**k trying to figure out what to do, some advice would be of help. Please don't fill this thread full of bullshit because I am just after some genuine advice.....not one minded toyota crap or vice versa.

    Cheers

    Hayden

everyone that goes from ae86 to s13 always comes back or wants to come back to ae86.

cars are money holes, youll never get your money back if youre modifying one yourself. better off buying someones finished product and slightly changing it to make it your own.

    1. sell your ae86
    2. save cash
    3. buy better ae86
    4. ????
    5. PROFIT

well i am in the same boat as you my friend, my partner has a child and i plan to marry her in the next few years fingers crossed. i bought a stock sprinter with mild dmg and fixed it all up, dropped in a jap 4age and bought coilovers, exhaust, extractors, diff.

i can spend another 3-4 grand and get it up to where i want it, bigger brakes, a better diff, some paint and a cage and i will be happy

but i know i cant have this car on the roads as it is, it has massive brake issues and i feel shitty when i drive it because i am putting myself in danger and alot of other people, as carefull as i am. SOMETHING WILL HAPPEN...

so i have a really good job, and planning to get a Nissan Stagea, i can pay it off in a year and a half if i dedicate some of my paycheck into it. That way i have a nice car, its boosted and that i can use it for my little family.

You can always get a little ford/mazda beater for a couple hundred bucks and fix it up a little, then just drive that while you have the car off the road. that way you can perfect your sprinter and then sell off the
    pos car.

    anyways my 2 cents

i think a s13 / 180sx is a better choice for daily driving or even better a s15 . new car allround .. the ae86 is now a 25yr old car .... it just wont work aswell for daily duties unless it has been resto from ground up... now i know alot of ppl will swear by it and say that they daily theres... and like the go kart feel ... and love the loudness and rawness of these cars, i was one of them but i along with many other have also had my car broken down and been stuck on the side of the road or have had it off road for many months until i had the cash to fix it ...

i can almost gurantuee you that as these guys get older (like i do ever year) they well begin to relies that track cars belong on the track and dd car on the street. as cool as they are highly modified street cars are never fun to drive 5days a week...they become weekend toy cars ...

i hate to say it but the 180sx has got better value for money ... spend a equal amount of money on a sprinter/ 180 and the 180 will end up the better car ..

quesstion . why do u need a rollcage , coilovers for a daily street only car ?

for a fun street / twisties car all you would need is some well thought out shock /spring combo and all new bushes and a nice lsd ... it is more then enough for a bit of fun + mildy built smallport ,20v or stock gze ..

or you could just buy a clean jdm ae86 with above mods and you will have many =)

    my 2cents.

a true car enthusiast will know a better car when they see it without being denial with the true facts...
so if you want a better car, 180sx
if you cant find yourself to give up the AE86 then stick with...

get the 180 engineered otherwise u will always be fucked up the ass by cops. If u can afford 2 cars buy like a magna or something and garage the 86 if not the 180 has more parts, newer but will cost a little bit more in fuel and are a little bit more comfortable in the back than an 86
