seat harness mounting points

hey i have bought these harness for my ae86 and im not 100% sure where to bolt them. the instructions say not to put new hloes in.

i was thinking of bolting them in to the rear seat belt buckel mounting hole, will the angle matter? does it have to mount directly behind the seat?

Google came up with them.

I was always told not to mount to rear seat belt anchor points and to mount to the harness bar on the cage which you probably don't have. Sorta contradictory info as one site says mount to rear seat belt point BUT keep it at 20 deg which I don't think an AE86 will do. and that info's from a Japan company anyway. You will fuck your back up if you crash with the harness set up incorrectly, so do it right. One CAMS guy told me not to mount to rear seat belts due to length and stretch; he said he'd seen the helmet hit the windscreen because the harness mounted to the back stretched so much. probably a high speed impact though.

i quickly flicked though the link, it makes sense but if you keep the degree on the lower half of the harness then it has to go on the rear of the seat rail, anyone disagree? but then you will have trouble with the rails. has anyone drilled a hole and wleded a nut under the car? as for the bar is it the same as the AJPS rear strut brace? i want to keep my seats in just for look, no belt.

Get a strut/ harness bar that bolts between the two rear seat clip points. Wrap your harness around that. Don't anlge your shoulder straps down to the rear seatbelt bolt points.

If you're sneaky you can set it up so the seats can still fold up and lock in with the bar in place. Though you obviously can't use the harness with rear seats up.

im recon i will try and modify the rear seat to allow the harness to go though.

i would strongly disagree with this! the points where the seat brace bars go have like 4 spot welds holding them in place. In a crash im pretty sure they will just rip out.

i have spoken to an engineer and he said that your seat belt bolts need to be able to support over 2 ton of lateral force, put 2 ton on a rear seat brace and see what happens??

your safest bet (and i think what cams requires) is to drill a hole and have a large plate under the car (i would make it 150mm x 150mm) and bolt your harness to that. also at the correct angle

far call! wouldnt 20 degrees be a long way in the hatch? i think i might also speak to an engineer and see what they say cause it is a major safety item.

the bar is that is rear strut brace that bolts where the seat backs bolt to or do he do another?
