Yes. Get a CRO and probe each of the wires.

If you aren't very electronicy, find a friend who is. If you don't know any, make friends with some.

cathode ray oscilloscope. If you're going to buy one, get a hand-held one, only 300 bucks!. You can get a single trace only for 149 but I think a dual channel would be much nicer and have more uses and only 400 bucks!!!

Just take it a sparky or reputable workshop and say fix it. Preferably someone that tunes wolf. They'll tell you exactly what the wolf's seeing and charge you a shitload of labour to fix the, most likely, dumb mistake.

I've used a USB connected, laptop dependent unit that was dual channel and I think ~$200-300 from ebay. Worked pretty damn well for the price and functionality. Once you've played with an o-scope you'll want to own one.

Holy shit! They're on special at jaycar now for 199!!! I NEED to get one.

I always wondered about the USB one. What's it like? Have you used a bench unit? How does it compare?

I've never used a bench unit so I can't give you a comparison. It was certainly sufficient to look at the signal from the dissy to the ecu and from the ecu to the coil. My mate that owns it has a masters in electrical engineering, 2 other degrees, and is doing a phd, so a well learned man! Based on that I would guess that it's good enough for most work.

I'm guessing it's good enough. but I'm super picky. I like having dials to turn and buttons to push. I just can't imagine what a computer one looks like, whether it's a pull down menu bar at top for setting, a bunch of crappy slide bars or fully automated. I should probably look into it but I can only imagine it being crappy.

Everything is on-screen. The software for this one had a combination of drop down menues, radio buttons, and dials (for x & y axis). I've probably still got the software loaded on a laptop at home if you want I can see if I can grab some screenshots.
