Default 20v rebuilt engine doesnt like old tune "haltech"

Howdy gang, i plan to see someone more indepth about this but basically the tune in the haltech E6K (tps tune only) was running the 20v fine and now another engine is in tune isnt happy at all. Stock rebuilt head with stock cams, bored to 0.5mm over with 11.6-1 comp pistons.

Part throttle (less then 15%) is hesitant and jerky, doesnt like too idle, seems real off for lack of a better word. More throttle = better response and more stable accel but im only going to 4500rpm for the time being(engine builders instructions)

As a rule of thumb, when a rebuilt engine with higher CR is installed is there anything people do to the tune to help rule out this problem or similar. There is no evidence of pre ignition or detonation either.

fresh plugs, injectors firing, coils working fine

    Any help appreciated.

I will plug the laptop in tomorrow its fukin freezing cold raining and windy here atm to do deal with this tonight.

nothing has changed, cams back in same spot, dizzy in same spot. No reason why timing out would accure but its on the list of things to check.

Appears to maybe be abit rich too. blows alittle smoke. Night time and raining so i couldnt tell what colour. Ill know more tomorrow afternoon. I was more after info on what people do with newer higher cr engines.

to be honest there isnt much we can do for ya mate.

you have an aftermarket ecu, with a tune on it, and youve plugged it into a differnet engine than what the tune was tuned for, and its running bad?

i would have almost guaranteed it would run bad.

your gonna have to get it tuned again.

    Thanks Dave

Although i always knew it would need a retune i never thought it would be almost undriveable.

I wasn't expecting the full potential but i thought it would atleast be alright under light throttle and idle.

    Off to the tuners then

Most likely one of these things has been touched or bumped in your rebuild:
-TPS, there is some adjustment on it.
-intake manifold gaskets. Are they leaking?
-air bleed screws on each throttle
-idle speed control of some sort
-throttle screws that sync all the throttles together
-coolant temp sensor. Is it the same one? Is it connected?

A TPS tune on quads can be a bit fiddly at the best of times at light throttle and idle, so only a knock of one of the above things would upset it.

I think knowing the color of the smoke may help too in dealing with the problem.

it was black but its all good now, tuned up and puring like a kitten.

For some reason it appears that the Haltech timing decided that being retarded 50deg was better then what it was meant to be.

Still got no idea why/how but anyways she's all good.

I'm not sure if this applies to your set-up, but Haltechs and 4age are renowned for not agreeing. Something about the CAS (Crank Angle Sensor) and a magnet. I think the haltech sometimes cant read the signal and it runs crap.
Do a search, you should find plenty of info regarding this as well as things to solve the problem.
I know you said you had this running with another motor, but the other motor could have had things in place to make in run properly.
I've heard plenty of stories of Haltech's and 4ages running properly after a tune and a month down the track misteriously start running like shit.
    Just a thought...

you will see on every 4age running a haltech, (that has no issues) is running the Haltech Filter (i think its called) its not advertised, but if you call haltech they will tell you.
its becasue if what you say Dom86, The toyota CaS are "noisy" Its a small box they started develpoing a few years ago..
pic up the phone, make a call.
From 10.5:1 to 11.6:1 - id say to much timing in the low end or not enough fuel.
