It you are comparing TA22 Celica to TE27 Corolla, then no there will be no difference.I trick you!
If you compare TA40 Celica to TE72 Corolla, then probably no difference either.
If you compare TA60 Celica to AE70 Corolla, then probably no difference either, but I confuse you
You are comparing 1973 TA22 Celica to 1985 AE71 Corolla, and there are a few differences. One main difference is the shifter position. The old gearbox has the shifter further forward. The output shaft spline is different also, so you would need the matching tailshaft yoke.
The celica (ta22) also has a different shifter position to the corolla (ae71) box .Also the celica box has a 20 spline out put shaft, corolla 22 spline.

a TE72 is no more of a Corolla than it is a Celica

Sorry Sam, I disagree.
ok I am confused, when it has TE72 on the firewall it has a badge on the car of T18 and not corolla anywhere? I am open to correction

The TE72 was mostly sold in North America, where it was called "Corolla SR-5", and called Corolla also in Europe.
The TE71 range in Japan were all badged Corolla or Sprinter, and never Celica.
E means Corolla/Sprinter.
"T18 SE" was a badge made up by Toyota Australia, who are never to be trusted. They did it so as not to conflict with the KE55s they were still producing in the Melbourne plant.
Just playing games with you Sam![]()
I would like to point out that TA22 celica T50's have a different shifter mechanism therefore internal mainshaft and lay shaft wont work in a AE86 T50 unless you disassemble and reassemble using the AE86 Mainshaft and shifter mech with TA22 syncro's
Well thats how it was when i tried. But i may have confused you too.
The AE71/AE86 T50 is also more tuff yo.
But yeah as said basically they don't match and it's not worth making them match.
