    Default making a tow bar

ok so after writing off my daily. i now have no car to tow my bike trailer around with

just wondering if anyone has pics ect of a towbar on a coupe, (or and ae86) cannot imaging them being to different.

havent had a good look at it yet but i was thinking of welding something up that bolts between the two tow hooks.

bike trailer loaded only weighs 400kg max. beams will have no probs towing it.

wanted it so when unbolting the hitch it is all hidden behind the bumper.

the haymanreese is pretty much a beam that connects to both rear towhooks with a tongue attached to it and a tow ball

another one had an extra bar thats connects to the body (drilled a hole through the body) on the other side of the fuel tank

added pics from other cars that look similar (not for ae86)

Lets not go into the unsafeness of this, but my towbar doesn't go over the fuel tank and i've towed cars on trailers with the Corona.

Go to a towbar shop and get it done properly yo.

Definately get one with the brace back to the floorpan though. Minimises the twisting loads on the towbar.

    genuine tow bar!?

anyway my car also car with a tow bar described as above and the pipe under the tank was kinked and all.

Javal: I dont see anything wrong with the safety of it? even if flat plate isn't the best choice

Anyway I am making something new now, I am going to have something that slides onto my tow hooks to bolt on and unbolt when I am done, no tow ball either I hate those, I will be using a rod end. I can only get away with this because I plan on only have a total trailer weight of 100kg and about 150kg in loading, heres a pic of it:

I think you've misunderstood me. There's nothing wrong with the safety of that particular towbar, more the 'towing a car that weighs almost as much as the car towing it PLUS the trailer with a light-duty towbar' thing.

i dont know about the other states but you arent allowed to tow more than the kurb weight of the tow car in WA, that also includes the trailer as part of the weight being towed. that means an 86 cant tow more than a tonne anyway.

having said that vt-vy commodores can get 2000kg tow bars fitted even though they weigh alot less than that

and yeah sam genuine tow bar
