Default Where to weld HSD threaded sleeve onto XT130 strut casing?

Hi all, I have a HSD coilover kit for XT130 strut casings and im using tokico HTS102 inserts. I know I have to cut 40mm out of the strut tube and put a 20mm spacer at the bottom of the tube (if this is wrong or there are better ways/measurements please tell me).

My question is, as the sleeve slides up and down the strut tube freely (before welding obviously) at what height do I weld it to the tube? If I weld the sleeve lower in the strut tube my car will be lower to begin with as the whole sleeve is lower on the casing but this (taking into account that I have the 20mm spacer under the strut insert) will not allow the HTS102 insert its full stroke/travel. What do I do? Can someone explain?

On the same note, if I take the 20mm spacer out of the bottom of the strut tube and weld my sleeve on 20mm lower would this work? Or have I missed something?

Any help would be much appreciated.
    Cheers

the damper has nothing to do with the spring height so you can ignore that part, unless your going to change the height of your car to suit the position of the damper valves.

Here is my fulcrum kit with a 60mm shorter strut:

right in the middle and by memory that was 50mm lower than unsagged stock. What you can do is 2 tack welds with the collar at the top and try it out.

Ok... basically I was asking whether welding the sleeve/collar lower down the strut tube and not using a spacer under the damper/insert would sacrifice less damper travel in a lowered car? Because the lower you screw down the spring perches the more travel you are losing...

the more i think about it the more i reckon that an 8kg spring (with helper) will not utilize the full stroke/travel of the damper anyway so maybe I have talked myself around in a circle?

with 40mm taken out of your strut you should have lots of travel, how low is your car?

RA65, pretty much same? Cut 60mm, no spacer, sleeve is welded about, maybe just under an inch from the top. Can rock the car at stock height, and slammed (30mm @rails)

Watching when you are welding the top of the sleeve as if you are cutting 60mm off you will need to weld it up higher, which will be closer to the thread for the cap, you don't want weld coming through that as it's thin.

weld is only really needed at the bottom, it is just compressive force over a large diameter so it's not like it's going to fatiage.
