    Default side bumpstrip glue

    hey all

ive finally got around to attempting to take the bumpstrips off the side of my car

it worked well with a heat gun as i thought it would and im happy so far

    im at this stage:

where all thats left is the glue, which is the hardest bit as it turns out

ive tried heating it and using a kitchen scourer to get it off and it works ok, but it looks like its taking the paint off which is not what i want to do at this stage

has anyone got some advice as to how i can get this off as well as save my paint?

    thanks guys

some one would have to confirm this but, when i stripped the interior of my sil & ke i used Diggers degreaser (looks like red cordial) to remove very similar looking rubber/fuzz. took a while but with a bit of elbow grease was good as knew. Now that i think bout it thats how i de-badged the boots as well. only thing that im not too sure on is how good it is for your paint but i wasnt too fussed lol

    hope that helps

eucalyptus oil is about the most potent thing you can use that won't strip your paint. it's awesome against glue

just keep in mind, the glue on your car has been there for 25 years, so reaaaally take your time.

you'll also need to give the car a good polish too (in a hope that you can get that lovely 'newly discovered' paint hidden by the strips to match your current paint)

ever heard of a caramel wheel?

not ssure of the real name but it is like a rubber wheel that you put on a drill and it takes off the glue supper fast and does not stripp your paint.
but if you leave it in the one spot it will burn the paint. i use them all the time at work and is so easy.

we use caramel wheels at work to strip double sided tape at work, only downside to using it on older cars is they are ususaly acrylic and it will just melt the shit acrylic paint off if its been resprayed in 2pac it will work fine

i dont know why people say you need heat gun i got mine off today with no hassles at all i just pulled em off. and to get the glue tape shit off i used a razor blade paint scraper thing. seemed to work alright.
