Did a bit more to the motor last night. Got the rear oil plate, oil pump, baffle plate and sump on. I fitted the head just loosely for now but I'll tighten it down tonight.

One of the threads in the oil pump where the sump bolts to at the front is stuffed the bolt goes in but just turns.

Also the two guide pins on the sump have been trashed and the nuts wont screw on anymore. I'll recut the thread in them and will have to see if I can tap the oil pump hole bigger.

Just some more pics of a little bit more I did last night. I gave the engine bay another coat as I ran out of paint the other day and some spots weren't totally covered like in the gearbox tunnel, chassis rails radiator support.
Sorry for the darkness was about 7PM.

Just one of the car in the booth. Can you tell we spray a lot of blue?

any updates?? im loving this build!! Do you have any more pics of the rust repair in the boot? My ae71 has similar damage, and would be good to see how you fixed it up?
    Keep up the good work!

I haven't got to the rust repair yet will most likely start it next week as I am going to Brisbane this weekend. I cut an ass end off another corolla with less rust. I searched for 6 months and I found not one corolla that didn't have rust above the left tail light on the inside.
I cut this bit off from both sides they have a small amount of rust but nothing like mine so I'll fix the rust in them then weld them in.

As for the bottom where its rusted where the two panels meet behind the bumper I'm just going to press up a bit of .9mm 304 stainless and weld it in.
The wheel well I'm cutting off the other ass end I cut off. But like I said will all start next week.
Not too bad man getting 24mm front and 18mm rear swaybars from AJPS and an adjustable panhard rod next week so will give you a yell to come throw it all in.

All I've been doing lately is painting all the small bits and pieces like the steel engine mounts, crossmember, pretty much everything for the engine bay.
I painted the cam cover writing in that anodised blue then masked up the lettering and just gotta paint them gloss black now. Also the cam gears I've masked up so I can spray silver edges on them.

I bought some NGK Iridium plugs for the 4AGE too only cost me $83.96 lol but they are good in my ute they produce way more spark.
Cheers man. They aren't finished yet like I said above going to have anodised silver too. Want them to look good cause I have a clear cam gear cover. 4AGE will be totally finished next week. Then its on to the body. I'd say another two months before its on the road still as I have heaps to do like running all the stereo wire, fuel pump wire, fuel lines, brake lines, rebuild calipers and half the other stuff I can't remember.

Didn't get as much done as I'd hoped over the weekend as I had heaps of family shit between the missus's and mine. Anyways got the cam gears and covers finished and done most of the final assembly. Just gotta fit waterpump, water outlet, timing belt covers, spark plug cover, dizzy and intake and exhaust manifold.

The longest part of the motor so far has been the cam covers it took me about 3 hours to tape up the letters so I could paint the covers black. Then the paint chipped off one of the 0's and I had to recoat it so you can see it looks darker.

Wasn't too fussed about the paint on the teeth of the cam gears as it will probably come straight off after I drive it. Probably will end up going after market just wanted them to look better than the crappy brown for now since I have the clear cover.

I'm pretty happy with how its looking but think I should paint the spark plug cover a different colour from black as it maybe too much black. I have blue NGK leads so it will break up the black a bit.

    Any suggestions?

I really need a new oil cap but want something plain and clean.

Thanks man I'm just taking my time with it as I'm in no rush I want it done right. It took me forever to get the meshing right of the crankshaft to cams. When I first started the harmonic balancer was hard to slip on and I needed a puller to remove it but by the end it just slipped straight on and off.
Think I had to re-adjust the belt like 20 times I just couldn't get the crank to sit at 5 with the cams at their timing marks.

Put the Dizzy, rotor, dizzy cap, covers, water pump, mounts and everything on. Only thing left is to paint the intake manifold and throttle body and fit them. Also got to get some stainless cap screws for the clear cover and spark plug cover. Buy a lightweight flywheel and fit it.
