Going to start this project this afternoon. Will start pulling all the bits off so I can get to the bits where I need to fix the rust. Just got a couple of questions.

    1. How does the rear window come out? Mine has the rubber seal with the chrome strip in the middle. Does it just pull out?

    2. How hard is it to get it registered with the 4age in it? Mind you mine has to be inspected by vic roads. Should I just leave the 4-K in for rego?

a couple of mates of mine have put there ae71's thru vic roads with 4age's in them and vicroads not notice. because with the 4ac, the eng no# is 4a***** and then 4age is 4a***** so yeah, not sure about 4k tho. other thing is you could get it engineered. wouldnt be that much.

as for rear window, chrome strip comes off, when you pull the front windscreen out you need some special tool, i take it, it would be the same for the rear.

good to see that yor getting into to it! sing out if you need a hand.

edit: ahh i got confused with thread lol.

you can hit the underside with k&h sound deadener. thats works well. used it on my old rat rod and it was great!
Yeah i saw your ute i was like "hey that looks really clean, hang on... that looks familuar.. Dude of ae86!!" lol.

Yeah that was me. Got it lightly tuned yesterday to 221rwkw but the clutch was slipping. Taking it back in once its got 10,000km's on the motor and a clutch to get a more aggressive tune around 250rwkw.
The lightened harmonic balancer makes the engine spin up too quick for the clutch so when I rev 2nd then 3rd right out the clutch just goes to the floor and doesn't re-engage till the rpm comes back down. So going to need better clutch.

K&H is that from Autobarn? I think I have some body deadener lying around in a really old tin.

I'm thinking of saying stuff it and just putting in the 4age. I spoke to an engineering mob and they said it doesn't need to be engineered if its using factory mounts and still a 4 cylinder.

Tonight I'm just going to get most of the interior out. But will leave in all the glass as Its staying outside.
Change the wheels back to stockos, remove the taillights and the strips down the sides and anything else I can get done.

Wont start rust repair till Friday.

Yesterday I took out the tail lights and took the rear bumper off to get a good look at the rust. Also pulled off the plastic strips down the side and the chrome trim from around the window.

I totally stuffed the chrome strip around the window. It was sooo flimsy and the plastic inside it broke like it was a cheap chocolate easter egg.

The rust looks way worse now I've taken a screwdriver to it lol.

Both these top sides I'm going to cut out and replace with new sections I have thanks to Dan-86 about 6 months ago

This part I'll just cut out and weld a plate in.

The bottom section here I'll just cut off the whole way along then just press a new piece up and weld it in its place.

Will start cutting it out Thursday or Friday.

Yeah I hate it too man that's why I've spent the last 9 months procrastinating about doing it. Even lost interest and was willing to sell.

After looking at plenty of other ones for sale that are supposedly "road worthy" I'd say 75% of E7's getting around have patch up work around the boot.

I'm going to cut out a fair bit and weld in stainless panels where I can.
