Sprinters don't have a rear strut,
on a completely unrelated note this is why "rear strut braces" are complete nonsense
hey i had a quick seach but i figured most people would just know this one
what is the id and the od of the ae86 strut tube?
and first off im not really a beliver that the rear shock mount is to weak for rear coilovers. but im thinking about machining up my own rear coilovers for the rear of my 86. now the easiest option is to use a rose joint on the bottem to mount to the diff. but im wondering if this would now make the diff mount not strong enough due to the solid mount?

did you read the question properly sam?
im making my own rear coilover. unsure if ill break the shock mount off the diff with a rose joint instead of a rubber bush
more likely of doing that with a higher spring rate, all the rose joint will do is add more vibration, i'd say using a more compliant reubber bushing as the bottom mount would be better anyway and id and od of the damper completely changes between what manuafcturer you go with, i'm gonna have a guess at you not using the original piece of shit damper they come with, would be worth possibly gussetting the bottom mount then if possible reinforcing the top mount too
for once I think I did, I read this "what is the id and the od of the ae86 strut tube?" as you wanting to know the specs of the rear struts in an ae86. Do you want to know the specs of the front struts that you can use for the back? or do you mean something else.

oh sorry my bad i forgot to mention ae86 front struts
yeah what i want to do is machine up a tube same as the 86 front strut tube so i can use all aftermaket front inserts that are avalible for the ae86 strut

now i understand to, bottom mounts are able to be rose joints, though why do you want rosejoint bottom mounts? i believe 86 stuff is 51mm od, not to sure on id i think it's 48mm?
i think it wound just be easier to make up (to me).
i thinking of drilling and tapping the bottem and just simply screwing in a rose joint.
to make a bush would require mabey machining up custom poly bushes
also might have to weld on a seperate mount to suit a soft bush. id like to keep it simple and easy and avoid welding to much
also keep in mind my car is track only. vibrations dont worry me toooo much.
cut bottom mount of a normal damper, throw in some extra welds for saftey and away you go, otherwise get a twin tube damper and you'll be able to weld it( very fucking carefully) or get a nice thick bodies monotube and machine in a circlip groove, you don't nee3d to use a strut to start with, i'll get you pics of my setup tomorrow
