my friend has 2 1/4 on the 22r and it feels like its choking it
simply. exhaust is all dented and, then it decided to fall off so in need of a new exhaust.
so i ask the question, whats a good exhaust from cat back?
2 1/4 or 2 1/2 with a high flow muffler.

I went with 2 1/4 on mine (Could go 1/2 on non mandrel bends). Get extractors for it as they will help heaps.
there are no cats in a 22re exhaust. besides, that would just be mean, like those bastard nissans, I should report them.
if you take the rear muffler off it is a straight through system.
i have tried various things and you wont experience much difference between any exhaust "upgrade" even the extractors you can get aren't usually extractors just good looking headers.
the engine doesnt turn over enough/it isn't a turbo to bother going high diameter.
no offence stx-16 but your friends 22re is choking because it is a 22re OR it doesnt have enough back pressure and it feels like it is wheezing a bit?
i ran a 2" from the resonator back under diff into another resonator off some random car and that seemed to make a difference from stock. my current corona is all stock except a "high flow" muffler and it also seemed to make a difference, those standard mufflers are horrible.
in short - get rid of standard rear muffler![]()
rear muffler is what fell off. aha. and feels heaps more responsive.
and im pre sure its a cat just after the headers, thinking, just put some pipe replacing the rear muffler and leave the standard exhaust. lol.
but in all i reckon 2 1/4 with high flow muffler would be the more sensable way to go with it.
any of that sounds sensible.
except for cat after the headers. if it has a cat then it must be aftermarket or someone put it there. youre not thinking of the central resonator? looks like a muffler yeh?
unless i'm mistaken and maybe some later models did... no 22re powered cars had catalytic converters - they run on LEAD - they didn't care about emissions then.
it looks like a cat and is straight after headers. could just be mistaking it for one, but either way it's gonna stay there. aha.
mm so i got some pipe. might jsut chuck it on and stuff some steel wool somewhere to make it a bit quite. not to keen on spending heaps of money on it. trying to save for a 180.
then re attach the stock muffler as cheaply as possible. last thing you want is a defect when your saving for another car. then you can get that defected then go back to the stock rona.
