    Default question about a car!

    Hey,

ive been contacted by someone that is wanting to swap his ADM sprinter for my mini.

This is what he has told me so far.

adm sprinter which had a kouki trueno conversion (not sure what this means)
car body is very good pretty much no rust and had a full repsrayed
    brand new coilover all around
    big commodore diff
brand new extractor and exhaust system
full JDM trueno interior including seats
4age bigport is not running. turns key and gets a crank/grind noise but not enough to turn engine over. Was driving when he first got it but he gave to a friedn to service and tune and since it hasnt ran.
old school microtech or mo tech ecu.

What could be causing the engine not to start? i was thinking maybe weak battery or rooted starter but as im not very knowledgable on the 4age i dont know.

I was wanting about 7grand for the mini so does this sound like an alright deal? I mean im abit hesitant as the car doesnt run and i dont know why and he doesnt know why so i wouldnt want to buy it thinking it would be a quick fix and end up having to replace the engine.

The car is located in Sydney and i dont really have time with work being hectic because of christmas, to run up there to check it out then come back adn go back up again if i were to get it.

im not sure if the guy is on this forum, he is on JDMST and his names Simon if anyone knows this car can you give me an idea of what its like?

    Cheers Blake

yeah $7k is pretty good for a 4age ae86 with coilovers and strong diff and next to 0 rust im guessing if he got a re spray he would have got the rust fixed
if the motor is fucking a big port is like less then $500

i would do it if it was me
but when you do fix it dont think its going to be fast 4age's do go alright but there nothing amazing
    you play halo?

yeh thats what i thought. well he has another 4age sitting there that he said i could have. How easy would it be to replace an engine? Ive pulled an engine out of mini and droppped it back in all good but that was pretty easy.

Im not expecting it to be quick.......... yet......... just something to get me from a to b at the moment then when i can save abit of money i'll start to mod it.

i was just worried about the engine not turning over. The guy seems to think it may have something to do with the computer being old and not being tuned properly.

how knowledgeable are you with machincs etc etc...if you got all the right parts and know exactly what needs to be replaced or fix then its a pretty sweet deal..if your a noob and going to post 25 different threads about how to fix THAT ae86 cause it just wont run....i say look into it more before deciding...

4age are simple motors yet a total fuck around at the sametime =.=', unless everything is rebuilt or reco...does sound like a starter motor and you would WISH it was...but if its the ECU thats a whole fucking around and re-tuning would be just easy to get it going if that was what it needs..

so many possibility, speaking from experience, get an engine rebuild and everything rebuilt or reco, starter, alternator, get someone to wire up standard ECU until you want to mod it... most guys on the forum can wire up standard ECU for a cheap price or next to nothing

im fairly mechanically minded, i have rebuilt my mini myself (minus the actually assembly of pistons, crank, gearbox etc) but thats not because i dont know what to do it was because i was going through exams and stff at the time that i started to rebuild the engine and didnt have the time so i took it to australias best (well im my opinion) mini guy to do it for me.

Is there an easy way to check if its the starter motor? I know when my starter was on the way out in my old ford festiva i was told to hit it with a hammer then try cranking! but it was stuffed so i push started it, drove it home and replaced the starter

ok cool well i will look into it further and see how i go.

If its the starter motor, put some fresh fuel in it, and push start it.

it's likely to have a VL diff in it. I suggest trying to get pictures and posting them on here
