Default Starter motor replacement for smallport

    Hey guys,

Sorry if this has been covered before......

starter motor crapped out today, just wondering what other starters I could use.

    Motor - 4age smallport

I heard any 4a starter will fit?

Hopefully I havent striped the fly wheel, it was making an awesome grinding sound.

Sounds nasty. I'm keen to know this too. I thought they would all work but what do I know.

    one word, NEW.

mine went about a month ago. Go and see a bloke at Auto Electrics Australia over at:

    16 Hampshire St
    Archerfield 4108
    3277 4566

Brand new Denso reduction starter from a 22re for $190 with warranty. The bloke is a celica nut and runs the same setup. He actually changed the front housing on the new one to my old one as the angle of the starter would foul on the exhaust.

Has more than enough torque to turn my motor over, sounds like a truck starting!

Small port are reduction starter. Bigport are direct drive. They all swap over but the reduction starter sorta takes up more space and outputs more torque, not that you need to worry about this on a little 4A. All the direct drive ones are 0.8/0.9/1.0kw units and can be used on swapped with any other direct drive unit as long as you swap the nose over.

The reduction starters are a little different but as long as you get one off a similar sorta car(NOT a diesel corolla) they should work. I'd just get one new or have the old one rebuilt for 150 or so.

what are the 20v starters are they gear reduction?
    the dyno pull to 300rwkw

BT20v is making 300rwkw like i said i would without nitrous so now its time for some spray and see if she will run a 10s or less

22re fits, you need to change the front housing that bolts to the bell housing. i attempted it and won.
