perfect opportunity for a 1uz
Morning ladies.
Issue: Got a Daihatsu Delta truck which uses from factory a Toyota 5R motor, 2lt, single cam, etc. The motor is essentially passed its used by date and im contemplating rebuilding or replacing.
What I want to know: Out of the "R" series motors, I want to know if the 22R or even the 18R will bolt up to the same gearbox as whats behind the current 5R and also if the engine mounts are reletively in the same position etc? OR if there is a diesel equivilant that will bolt up.
Also, in case the easiest option is replacing the 5R with another one, what cars are they most commonly found in?
This question would probably be better suited to toymods maybe, however I cant seem to be able to sign up there.

So by the looks of it Dave, its not going to be a bolt in affair, am I right?
I could only see some of the pages.
I don't think so. A guy I know was like, 'i sold 'im an 18rg for his Cressida but they're different bolt pattern to the old r motors, i'll make it fit'
Damn, this is not good news.
Looks like ill be rebuilding a 5R or putting a turbo diesel or an eight in I suppose.
Hi.
Early R motors have an integral bellhousing (as in, part of the bellhousing is actually part of the block casting), thus gearboxes, clutch assemblies and pretty much everything else is non interchangable between the early OHV R motors and the later OHC (and DOHC) R motors.
Have fun.
Tractor motors ftw.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?
