like the topic says, does anyone know why bonnet pins are illegal (in qld at least)? i mean you can legally have bonnet scoops (old v8 style ect) so i cant see how bonnet pins can effect safety more than a scoop!

alternatively is it a must to have bonnet pins when u have a frp or cfrp bonnet? i know that the bonnet can fly up ect but why is this? is that to say that with an oem bonnet all thats stoping this from happening is the extra weight from it being steel?

just curious as to if anyone knows somethings about it...

Apparently they can slash people up...

Most people I have seen get a flap of rubber / hard plastic and rivet it over them from he front edge so that even if you did theoretically collect your grandma, the pins couldn't get to her.

another one of those 'sensible' stupid laws......

In the unlikely event that you actually mow someone down... intentinal or un.....
they are gona get snapped either way..with or without pins..... and its stupid how you can have other mods that would be just as, if not more dangerous than bonnet pins.

I have to get some pins soon to on that note..as I dont have a bonnet catch, not to good when I get my car back on the road....

....will cops pull u up for bonnet pins often or do they usually ignore them..? will u pass pinkslip if u have bonet pins also.....?

    (I hate gay laws)

    end rant.

i think it might have something to do with effecting the crumple zone of the car, because the pins hold the radiator support and the bonnet together so they wont be able to fold in, so when you hit a pole or what ever your rooted cause you will get the full impact of the crash. maybe!!

    pedestrian impact laws

same reason guages cant be on the bonnet

they can apparently cause further injury to someone who's been run over & slides up the bonnet. (personally, i think bonnet pins & guages are the least of your worries if you've just been hit by a car, but anyway... )

    doubt it,

you other guys are right though, i suspect.

its the same reason why manufacturers cannot make cars with pop up headlights anymore. pedestrians will get even more fu*ked up if you run them over.

what if you got hit by a car at low speed and would normally just roll off the bonnet
but thanks to bonnet pins get cut up

if thats the case, what about those big ass badges?

ohh and with the gauges being illegal on the bonnet/outside, i thought they were illegal to on the inside too! (mechanical ones) as they can rupture and then spill all the crap inside the car.....

    talk about confusing laws....
