    Wink

    I introduce to you all... my AE86.
    She is a variety of 1984 2dr Levin GT Apex.
    A short history and then specificatons...

    HISTORY
    pre-registration
    Imported and purchased in 03/04 from John Verban (YahooMotorsport).
    The car was a bit rough when it arrived in Adelaide... small rust ...few body dents... signs of previous repair... and disrepair.
    However it had a few special bits and pieces if you knew what you are looking for. For instance... front coilovers, rear Tokico HTS 102 struts, etc... (the suspension was set to very soft. So I don't think the importer was aware of exactly what suspension was under the car.
    Anyway... I bought it.

    I start getting bits and pieces for roadworthy done...
    ...months pass...

    While on a temporary registration permit I spin the car through a barb wire fence when it begins to rain. This is the first moment I realise I also have a tight LSD
    Anyway, after the off road excursion, I am left sideskirtless and money less...
    I repair the damage on the car in my backyard. Parker lights replaced with brand new items.
    ...months pass...

    Fail Regency first visit... return a few weeks later and pass! (thanks Steve for helping out with all the stock parts for Regency)

    early life
    As soon as I got full time rego for the 86 I started using her as a daily/thrash car.
    A quick favourite of mine became hills driving, as with a more powerful car than my last ('78 honda accord) I could feel my driving improving in the hills dramatically.
    Try my hand at drifting.
    Eventually the inevitable happens... While drifting 'on road' during the wet, the rear spins wider than anticipated and up into a kerb. There goes and XR4 and an axle not to mention my panhard rod resembles a curly banana.

    fixing time stage 1
    Well... finding another axle wasn't a problem. I got hold of one in the next week... but to my suprise, while trying to fit the axle, I find out that mine are late model axles (kouki). Now, this was a bit of a setback, I looked into trying different Toyota axles, but none would retro-fit with ease... so i wait for a kouki axle to appear on the marketplace...
    ... waiting ...
    I hear that a friend of a friend has the axle I need. So I enquire... BINGO! the deal is done, the axle is in. Along with a new Whiteline panhard rod and a pair of new 13" minilite wheels at a bargain price!

    back on the road
    In August I have a go at my first time on the race track in a Mallala G1 Drift competition. I don't manage to qualify but have a great time. I lend my car to a friend Simon AE86 who had mechanical trouble in practise with his car. He manages to qualify, but does not progress too far.

    It seems winter is nearly over... so I see my friend Steve about an oil cooler..
    he says "Jesse, I have what you need", so out comes a Pajero oil cooler and Corolla sandwich plate. With cooler items fitted I take the 86 for a run in the hills.
    Maximum temperatures have dropped dramatically. A hard run in the hills would oftern generate ~105C oil temp. New temp is closer to ~85C. Mission accomplished.

    The car has another go at a track day. This time at AIR. Driven by a friend.

    I continue to drive the 86 every day, and tackle the hills most nights.

    I buy and install a 7point rollcage with side intrusion bars and rear side brace (best bolt in rollcage design for AE86 I have ever seen)

    11/04 display car at Small Car Sunday '04

    Just after the new year I manage to trip up again. While on my way home from driving one night, I lose concerntration on a familiar road and lock up into a corner. My car ploughs over the edge of the road and down a short slope coming to rest on a tree. It turns out that my front tyres were down to wire.

    fixing time stage 2
    After taking the car to several chassis repair shops, I am constantly told 'not to bother' as 'it's a write off', or 'you can't afford to fix it', or 'what the fukk car is this?'
    Eventually I have a rather possitive chat with Michael of M&C Doyle crash repairs. He offers to fix it at a good price. A new rad support and panel are welded into place and a main chassis rail pulled and straightened.

    While waiting for the body to be straightened I go out and buy a full bodykit for the car.

    I finally get the car back, and she looks super straight. Michael says it was a tough job, but he was very impressed with the outcome.

    There are only a few more things to do do before it's back on the road... these next few steps took me months...
    * Bonnet donated by Simon
    * S13 Radiator donated by Joel and Steve
    * Remove AC
    * Replace PS belt
    * Paint and fit bodykit
    * Sell rollcage to support drug addiction (just kidding, but i did sell the cage)
    ...months pass...

    we ride again
    Finally in Early 09/05 I re-registered the car and it's back to being a daily for the time being.

    I love this car, we have our ups and downs... yay!

    It sounds like you had rough time. But when you are in love with something its worth trying to do whatever you can to keep it.

    Sounds like a great car, cant wait to see some pics.
    Previous cars:
    BMW 318i, Mazda MX5, Mazda Familia, Toyota Levin GTV (miss it), AE71, AE92 corolla x 2, Honda Integra Type R DC2 (awesome car),
    Mitsubishi Evo 8 MR (Missing it)

    Current Car:
    2013 Hilux SR5 (turning it into a off-road warrior)
    I am looking for a track only car..... Thinking of an AE86 to use.
