I was just trying to figure out a way of removing the glued lines that are across my 86. Im thinking of some kind of solvent to remove them but dont wanna damage the paint in the process. I was looking through the members rides section and an example is on beserker99s car (of the 'lines' that is)

    And mine too!!!

These were a pain in the ass (and thumbs) I used acetone to soften it then wax and grease remover to get the rest of the crap off.
aparently heat guns work a treat, but I didn't find that out till i had finished.

WARNING: Pulling off mine reveailed some very nasty rust patches!!!

i would only recommend removing strips on a car that has near perfect paint work or a car that you will be respraying, as with older faded paint, you will be left with a huge mess and it will look crap!!

is there any specific solvent good enough to dissolve the glue yet not strong enough to go through to the paint?

go to a car paint specialist and show them, they will have your answer, but i imagine it would be hard to find any that wont affect your 20y/o paint!
