yea my 4age does the same, i think there a leak in my intake manifold someplace or the blown headgasket...
check ur radiator if there is any crap (milky or foamish) in it
also under ur car where u parked and check out the oil thats left behind
Hey Guys....
After going for a long trip over the weekend, my ae86 has started to idle really erratic? Once warm, it jumps from 1100 rpm to around 1300 - 1500rpm every second or so.....
On the way home, it lost about half the oil as well?
My only thoughts to the idle would be that the plugs need changing?
Any comments or suggestions would be muchly appreciated....![]()

OH, i so hope its not a blown head gasket!....
Ill check the radiator this afternoon, i should have thought of that! But wouldnt the engine overheat before it blew a head gasket?
There was a little oil underneath the car, but i have drained it and replaced with some thicker oil yesterday.....
Is there any other ways to determine if it has a blown head gasket?
OK. I have just taken the car for a quick drive.....
It doesnt seem to drive like a pig, or really rough, but it still idles a little crazy.... except when you are stopped on a decent incline or decent, then it idles normally....
Im am going to check for bubbles in the radiator now, and make sure there is no blowby coming from around the head....
sounds like the engine is hunting a bit.....check your water level....if its not that i would bank on it being the head gasket...

Give your throttle body a good thorow clean,
Fixed my hunting once, but as said before, air pokets in the water will also make the idle seem jumpy, as too the tps if its off slightly.
Let us know how it goes.
Cheers
Steve
