Thread: Diff to suit AE86

    Dudes,

I am new to the forums, first post and all, so thanks to all who reply.

I have just purchased a AE86 sprinter (Aus spec sadly) and it is bog stock. It has the unlegit non-lsd drum brake rear so I am after a diff to drop in. I have been calling around for imported AE rear ends but the prices are crazy.

    What other options are there?

I have heard of hilux and celica diff conversions, but what models fit? and with what modifications?

    Any info would be awesome,
    Cheers.

Hilux is super-strong, but also super-heavy at around 130-odd kgs. IMO best bet is to save up, get a good deal on a T18 rear end and slot in a nice new KAAZ, TRD or Cusco centre. Although still probably costing you over $1,000, it's cheaper than paying someone to do a diff conversion!

    Totally Agreed!.........

Just slot in a T Series Diff, and purchase a new LSD centre to suit........

Unless you just weld your S Series Diff up!.....

    T18 celica, cool.

What should I expect to pay for a rear end in good nick?

Is the T18 rear end disk brake or drum?

Are the rear brakes suitable for drift use? (will the hand brake hold up??)

    Thanks for the info guys.

Hmmm... Thanks for clarifying that! Is that complete with centre, brakes, etc? Maybe I will put one in my car afterall. I was under the impression they were definately over 100kg at the least.

It's not a Celica btw. It's a Corolla. Anyway, I wouldn't pay more than $100 for a full rear end, and they have drum brakes which are arguably better for dorifto.

as much as people try to stop it, it is VERY hard to get a t18 diff for under $200 with tailshaft

most diffs are 3.7 or 3.9 ratio... series 1 and series 2 respectively

Truenosedan is right, I spent a day on the phone chasing a t18 diff and I ended up paying $220 with handbrake cables, although it was a series 2, so swaybar was included. Seriously, a t18 diff is worth more than a whole damn t18! lol!
