I have heard of people getting defected from the cops for not having a cam cover on
Cheers
Hey lads,
My cam covers on the 20v when i got the car have been melted a little and all bubbley and shit from the engine heat....wondering should i just take them off and leave the cams exposed or leave them on? would not mind tracking down some new ones but no point if there gonna get all f***ed up again.
Stewy said best to leave on due to...if the break could cause some damage....but my old man who was a mechanic for half his life said really....if the belt does break its got f*** all to grap onto beside the radiator hose which he said im sure it wont grab and wrap around it and rip it off cause of the way it will break and even if it does....ur belt has broken so why the hell do u need a radiator for now, cause u wont be driving to far unless u have a spare belt?
I see the yes and no's what do u think.
Also any little thing i should do or check for on my new sprinter.

The non cam cover is a cool look, but remember, the cover is not really there to stop things getting out, its to stop things getting in, I had a mate who always drove without one, a stone got wedged inbetween the tensioner and the belt and stripped the teeth off!
Luckly we cought it before it did some serious damage.
Timing belts are not elasticated, they are a dense compound of fibreglass and other fibres, therefore if it does snap, the engine will stop and the belt will more likely just drop, its not going to wrap around anything.
just put a new blet on so you know its new, fresh and wont have any problems with breaking buty as 20v monster said, the cover is there to stop stuff from damaging the belt and cam gears.
I have a friend who use to run his turbo GZE without a cover and never hand any problems.
Yup, ive never had a cover on mine and never had any problems
I'd always run one on mine just for piece of mind. Will prolong the life of the belt also.
Get someclear cam covers! lol
I have no bash plate underneath or cover.. till i have one i wouldn't run without it..
those gravel traps are nasty
LOL, camBELT cover. Thought you wanted to run with your cams exposed
I've put one on, just looks neater...
