I have an AE92 short block and i was wondering if i was to use a wire brush to clean off the carbon on the top of the pistons would it make the piston weaker/fail earlier.

Definately don't use a wire brush. With a few decent scratches you will create hot spots and they lead to premature failure. A good soak in petrol and carbi cleaner will do the job.

Or a quick spray of brake fluid/carby cleaner and sum very soft steel wool.

Done it before, never had trouble with it.

    Cheers
