dunno this might help, 800rpm. this is only base timing with no vacuum advance attached
Word....nother noob mechanical question....
My big port seems to idle at about 1100rpm....is this the norm? Also it drops when the headlights are on to about 800. Is that "the norm" as well?
Used to have an AE82 (big port) which idled pretty high so didn't think much of it but was just wondering...

Mines on 1000rpm, but i think toyota intended it to be between 900rpm and 950rpm.
1100rpm is a little high, but not a major concern.
Rpm will drop when head lights are on because your drawing more current from the alternator.

Insert witty comment here....
yeah 800rpm is good, does ur rpm go back to 1100rpm after dropping to 800, caz if not ur idle up value good be fucked ....same type of thing if u turn on the a/c
Cheers bros...
Yeah if the lights are on it drops to about 800ish and then pops back up to 1100 when they're off again.

iddle control can be a problem on FWD 4ages that have been converted to RWD. often the idle speed controller is not plumbed in to the cooling system as it needs to be, and is just blocked off or deleted alotgether.
if its a proper rwd 4age (or has all proper rwd accesories fitted correctly) then it may just need to be cleaned. it is at the base of the throttle body.
some pics could be handy to see your setup exactly.

Mine seems to vary alot. Sometimes it's a fair bit over 1000, sometimes abit under 1000 and somtimes feels as though it's about to stall, note this is with all aircon and lights and accesories turned off. Might just adjust the idle speed if that continues. Doesn't get run everyday though.
Yar...I'm not overly concerned especially after what slydar just posted. I reckon it might've been a FWD. How can you tell and where is the idle speed controller located?
Sorry if the Q's are a bit daft but I'm learning as I go here...
