yesterday i got a general serivce and check for my t18 (paid by my dad )
there was a pump disconnected when i bought the car which i didnt know what it did so i put a belt back on it incase my car would die without it. i asked the mechanic what it was and he said it was something do with emissions and pumping hot air into the exhaust . he didnt seem to think i really needed it, so i was wondering if anyone knows if its okay to jsut take the whole pump out. seeing it wasnt connected and used with the previous owner anyways.
anyone know if i need it?

its an air pump. it pumps air into the exhaust to increase the O2 level coming out of the exhaust pipe. they reakon its supposed to lower the emmisions coming out the back.

No, its not necessary to have it fitted or working. It may rob you from a few HP, but you may not notice it.

You can remove it, or just take the belt off again. Id just take the belt of if i were you.....

ok cool, i might just disconnect it because theres quite a bit connected to it. but yeah thats the idea i got from the mechanic, a pump to put more oxygen in the exhaust to make it seem more environmentally friendly, when it doesnt reduce emissions, it just adds air.
    well thanks for the reply
