My question is can I use a 100 bucks arc welder to do welding on my car? I was going to buy an arc welder to weld a metal plate on the roof to replace my sunroof. But the guy in the shop advise me to buy another 600 bucks tig/mig? welder to do the job as he said using arc welder will cause rust and damage my car, what do you guys rekon?

if you want to blow holes in your roof, use an arc welder.

if you want to blow holes in your roof with a mig, buy a mig.

personally i'd get a panel shop to do this kind of job, to fill a sunroof hole i would just use a blanking plate type thing, its hard to weld things to a roof without getting distortion and oil-canning.
