due to my g/f getting headaches from the fuel smell that comes from having a surge tank in the boot, i am seeking alternatives.

has anyone converted a standard hachi tank to efi? (i have VL in tank bits if suitable)

or how hard are jdm efi tanks to come by and are they suit the 20v?

    what else can i do?

I plan on doing the commodore baffles into my sprinter tank. If you go that route let us know how it goes.

    ive done it before.

buy an in tank pump. weld a bracket to the base (lid) of the pick up that will position the pumps pickup in the same place as the standard pickup. secure the pump to the brakcet with a hose clamp or cv boot band. drill 2 small holes only just big enough for the power wires to go through. use a 2 part epoxy to glue them in place.

the pump will come with a plug. but the wires wont be long enough to reach through the pickup lid. so make sure you use good quality wire and insulate your joins properly with heat shrink or really good conectors using proper crimpers.

stagger your joins too so they cant rub on each other.

youll also need an adaptor to go from the 5/16" outlet of the fuel pump to the 1/4" of the standard fuel feed.

be certain only to attempt this modification if you 100% certain that you can perform it safely.

Yep done it plenty of times, with toyota EFI pumps & Bosch pumps. make sure you put a fine mesh filter on the inlet of the pump or you will kill it.

I measure the tank and mount the pump as low as you can get it, this way you will minimise fule surge.

I dont use epoxy I get plastic terminals from jaycar and add 'O' rings and fibre washers to seal them.

i think it's an ae92 seca twincam that the bracket comes from... devolution might know the exact model if i'm wrong? i'll put up some pics of mine this week sometime. it wouldn't be too much of a stretch to fabricate baffles around the pump by attaching them to the bracket, either, if you were that keen.

the bracket will take any denso pump ie; from supra, cressi, skylines, etc.

then how are you going to put it back together? weld it? fuck that. can you say ka-bomb?

unless youre getting some else to do it. a professional. and then youll be paying. and theres no need.. it wont surge unless its almost bone dry.

even cheap setups ive helped people with using an external pump drawing from the standard pick up with no surge tank/lift pump dont surge untill theyre down to LESS than 1/8th on the guage. dont worry about it.
