So i've heard that suzuki sierra shocks work well in the sprinter as theyre a good stiff shock. just asking you guys here about them as you would know more about them than myself.

I'm guessing these shocks are popular as theyre a cheap upgrade.

whats needed to run these shocks in a sprinter?

    straight fit?

    cost? etc

    thanks people

    seeeeaaarrrcchhhh...

    but because i'm nice...
less than a minute of searching, first thread i found...

says sierra shocks from the front (year 1984-88), fit in the rear of an ae86 with no modifications, they are extremely short stroke (ie someone said "bullshit low").. and are pretty stiff.... for a stiffer alternative go to HQ 1 tonner rear shocks...

    Sierra
    Brand: Red Ryder
    Price:$ 34.99

    Com: 250

    Brand: Gas Ryder
    Price: $44.99
    Ext: 416
    Com: 253

gee.. that was hard wasnt it

yeah i did a search but didnt come up with much at all.

the suzuki shocks sound like a good alternative for the rear if theyre a straight fitment. Though from what i gather you need the low springs to go with them.

do you know the diff between the red ryder and the gas ryder?

what does the ext and com stand for?

does anybody have any other recommendations for front shocks?

Dont quote me on this one, but im guessing ext stands for "extended" and com stands for "compressed", and would relate to the height of the shock in both of the above states???????.....

that is correct... Red Ryder and Gas Ryder are just different lengths by the looks of it, possibly also different damping? not sure.

i think those prices are for Gabriel from supercheap auto.. not sure..

also, sierra shocks are really a budget option, if u want good shocks i'd consider better ones (AJPS has some that suit i believe)

Did some research after reading this topic cause i might be interested in doing the same thing, so here is a rundown of the info i came across:

Front - one setup a guy on here is/was running was a RA60 strut, Celica (St204) GT4 inserts. Other guys were running coilover setups on front. Suggested spring from truenosedan was a 65 cortina, but not sure if this was for real or a joke... various other springs were being used, such as kings & TRD

Rear - Front shocks from an Ultima Suzuki Sieera go into the rear of our cars - for Gabriel shocks the part number is the same for 81-88 and 84-87 sierras, meaning you've got 81-87 to choose from i guess.

Looks like falcon springs (EA, XF for example) are the go, but you'll need to chop em. Most recommend about 200mm, or 2-3 coils (from the bottom).

Thats all i got for now, and its only from what i've researched (all off this site) so i got no idea other than what i've got above. I'll watch this thread with interest as it seems like a cheap upgrade until "proper stuff" is put in I guess i speak on on behalf of filthin also in that the opinions/help of anyone who is/has run this setup would be appreciated

there are 2 problems to deal with. first is length, second is damping rate. There are plenty of shorter shocks around but they wont suit the very light car, especially with stiff springs. I bet a stock sprinter would handle better than some of the crappy conversions I've seen lately.
