changing the timing of the individual cams timing could make ur car sound better theoretically, but the cam gears themselves arent responsible for that... all they do is spin around
ok thanks alot
he may mean cam shafts, not the gears... these would make a significantly different sound
maybe he should get a Motec exhaust... that will sound better![]()
But cars with aftermarket cams usually sound pretty hot. It gives the motor a tougher sound I reckon.
any mod to the inlet or the exhaust has the potential to make the engine note sound different. Cam gears set to factory should sound exactly the same... on a different setting they may sound different, whether this is "better" or "worse" is totally subjective. The most important question to ask is whether putting adjustable cam gears on my stock motor will make it run any better?
edit typo
you only need vernier cam wheels with high lift/biig duration cams, so those would make it sound alot better anyway, as it will probably rev close to 9k........anyway
Aftermarket cams usually have valve overlap, and thats what gives them the lumpy idle that makes it sound good, using adjustable cam gears on your stock cams may provide more power if you have them dynoed and tuned as you adjust them.
If you do replace the camshafts to an aftermarket cam, make sure you at least upgrade your valve springs to the recommended specs that come with the cam or revving your car to 9k can cause a valve to drop and things go bang from then on.
gears on what motor?
i love the sound of a v8 with timing gears replacing the chain setup... but putting them on a stocky is the sadness.
