Whats your opinions on these, I was planning on buying one for my car but was told today that they are only good on brand new cars that havnt started to rust,
any one own one?

I've been looking at these too as being in FNQ, everything is constantly wet for several months a year and things rust overnight. I'm still in the research phase, but from what I've read, they will slow down the rusting process on already rusted vehicles. One did caution that if your paint is in poor condition rust stains may appear on your paintwork due to the formation of a protective ferric oxide coating on any bare metal.

Penetrol also stops rust in its tracks - I have painted all the seams, insides of panels, tyrewell and rust spots with it and will eventually spray the entire underbody to protect it.

No worries. The rust staining worries me as my paint is bad, but if it saves the car its worth it.

Start with a websearch, that's how I found the above companies. Also 4WD accessory stores carry them as that's what they're most commonly used on.

Its an oil type primer available from paint section of hardware stores. Its not cheap though, but it spreads out so much as it 'penetrates' that a small amount goes a long way. It leaves a glossy surface which looks quite nice but it scratches if not painted over. We reguarly coat the underside of our quad bikes and trucks as they are driven through salt water and acid every day. About 3 years ago we painted some badly rusted girders in the shed with it - they still look the same as the day they were wire brushed & painted, rusting process completely halted.

you can also use penitrol on things like plastic bumpers to give them an armoural like finish..

Seriously, I'm quite impressed by the versatility of this stuff.
