7MGTE engines are pretty cheap to come by. Give the thing a GOOD going over before you put it in the car. IE all new gaskets, get the head refaced if needed, Metal head gasket, do a search and im pretty sure ull be able to find the proper torque settings, use new head bolts (im pretty sure its 82lbs but double check it first!) the stock head bolts are what makes the fuck up.

7Ms are tough engines my a dude in my car club has one putting out something like 380rwkw out of his one? pretty nuts, puts 2jz's to shame

    best of luck!

dom AE71... to convert a 3SGTE to RWD... you need 2S-C sump/pickup.. and gearbox bellhousing.. make some minor changed to the coolent passeges at the back of the enging.. worst case scenario, you would need to machine a block of ally out with fitting etc.. like what Ant gets done for his RWD 20V conversion kits..

and you use the 2S mounts, that bolt onto the side of the 3SGTE engine.. using the SA63 cross member.. all this is strictly bolt for bolt affair.. and yes i personally know.. as i have seen/helped people with this stuff befor.. i was infact going to put an NA gen 2 3SGE in my 86.. but at the last miniute changed to NA 4AGE just cos i wanted it going..

3SGTE heavy!? WTF?? where did you pull that from?? i am helping rebuild a Gen 2 3SGTE at the moment.. i can lift the half block (minus pistons, just crank inside) quite easily by myself bare hands... try doing that to a 7MGTE block!!

sa63 cross member will definately not bolt in to an ma61.

2s mounts from st corona/sa63 celica will not completely bolt up though they can be modified.

then you will need a custom flywheel, as the 2s flywheels are 6 bolt.

sa63 bellhousings put the starter on the passenger side.... same side as turbo.

all manifolding needs to be custom made... ect ect.

its alot of work. thats why hardly anyone does it.

1j/2j is the go. you can buy a 1j fitting kit (engine brakcets and mounts), so that truely does make fitting the end a bolt in job.

youll need a front sump 1j/2j and the cooler/rad piping is slightly custom, but atleast its rwd.

old 7M engines can be a disaster. we fix them regularly in our engine shop (). we recently restored the peter willimason race supra engine (bathurst 85,86,87 etc) If you really want a 7M, budget big $ to get it sorted before its fitted. the bottom end is strong but the top end dodgy with soft heads, worn cams, and inadequate head bolt system. You can spend $5000 on them without batting an eye lid. I keep most parts in stock to fix them.
the 1J and 2J have different engine mounting brackets , but either would be a better deal if you have an empty shell. dont forget the hassles of the wiring however.
The other problem (from a drift/race viewpoint) is the amount of weight forward of the front axle line, with the 7M. They are a heavy bugger and the handling is thus biassed to understeer, which is exactly the opposite of what you want.
    if I was doing this for myself, I'd use a 3S or a 1JZ.

^^^ or just use TRD magnesium hi volume sump and TRD high volume oil pump - eliminates the 7M's inherent problem with spun bearings, and TRD steel head gasket and correctly torque'd head bolts - no more blown head gaskets. Then if you want to wind up the boost, your gonna need some bigger injectors + reprogramme the computer (not sure if you can, may have to go aftermarket). CT26 is a good turbo, tho.

yes i read zoom alot + hpi alot.

You want to keep this conversion as simple as possible and save yourself some (there will be some anyway) sleepless nights doing it.

You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

I'd advise either a 2JZ or 1JZ. But it really depends on budget. You'll be lucky if a 7M will last under heavy drift punishment without spending a decent amount on it.

I know it's evil, but SR20DETs are cheap and powerfull. I don't know how hard they are to fit to an MA61 though. Probably very!
