Mine had a blown HG. I wanted to try and kill it before I ripped it out, but I got impatient cos it would keep starting after countless thrashings.

I bought my car with a blown head gasket, so that is one reason (probably overheated) put another 4ac in the other weekend, its very smokey and very rattly but would probably go another 100000ks. But I am fussy and putting another decent one in it now.

really the only thing that dies on these bastards are the heads,

fairly prone to head gaskets, or welch plugs, they really should only have distilled water in em

lol! good topic! me i had on eof those in my first sprinter. thrashed the hell out of it. every chance i had late night down the national park, behind factory streets and everytime it rained =). then one day woke up and saw a puddle of oil on my garage floor. like everybody else i wanted to put 4age in it so i wanted to blow it. perfect chance it was leaking oil so one month later of thrashing with no oil in it and one morning gf was driving it to pick me up and on the way it finaly gave up. i was left with a hole the size of a 50cent on the block and bits of metal every where (i think blow piston or something) and oil (what was left of it) every where. that was about christamas 2005. i started it up a few months back just for laughs to see if it still would . and what would you knoe the damn thing started didnt sound too healthy thoo sounded like it was going to blow up. so that my story.

    no oil+ thrashing= blown 4ac

Hehe, these things are pretty resiliant. Is the 4K as durable?

im mean i guess if i had fixed the oil leak and put some oil in i guess it would of lasted. so what make this motor so strong? Dont know much about them but i heard that they have got the same block as a 4age tho the head is SOHC. is that true?

didnt get a chance to kill mine, didnt even try. such a reliable engine, shit, but reliable.
guess if u send a piston out the side it just means one less thing to remove for the 4age conversion
