    hi

im almost ready to set about to do my first project / engine swap into a ea86 sprinter and i got some questions....

    engine: 4AGE 20v or 4AGE 16v (read below)

im having trouble deciding which engine i want, i want the installation to be as painless as possible, as it will be my first time. dont really want to fuck things up lol. so which has the least amount of issues when installing? why?

regarding engine mounts that the 4AC sits on, is it a bolt out, bolt in job? or do i have to remove old mounts and reinstall them somewhere else for the new engine??

reason i ask is that im trying to find a sprinter in good condition with a blown headgasket or something (anyone know how much this will cost?), remove the 4ac engine and replace with 4A-GE

now, i need some rough prices on what the parts im gonna do the car

    4AGE front cut
recondition gearbox if needed, probably get stronger syncro's (done by mechanic)
    buy new waterpump (ill fit)
buy a new clutch (ill fit)
machine flywheel if needed (get mechanic to do)
    1.5 LSD
    2.5" exaust
    4-2-1 extractors
    change timing belt

after that ill be looking to stiffer up the suspention

car is to be used as a slut car to thrash around and to teach me more about cars etc. so must be road legal.

    thanks guys

16v for the most painless swap.............. no mods need to be done to the mounts either dude......its pretty much an in and out job..

    16v is easier.

20v is nicer. but harder. and mroe crap to do to it

fitting of the 20v requires mods to the crank angle sensor and mods with the cooling system. for your first conversion i would definetly recommend the 16v.

a better learning experience. if you want to try something else later down the track, then go the 20v

I wouldnt be too fussed about looking for a sprinter with a blown headgasket it shouldnt make all that much difference to the price. Just dont buy a shitter, rust is more trouble than it's worth.

Both engines are straight bolt in but the 20v requires a fair bit more stuffing around. I would definatly go for a 16v for your first conversion. I'm sure you're aware there are several different types. The easiest is a rwd 4age straight from a jdm ae86. All the others have some work required for use in rwd format. If you do end up getting your flywheel machined make sure you get it done properly as it can be dangerous.

Do plenty of searching here and on toymods you should find all the answers you need.

for ease of conversion 16v FTW....

just get a nice base to work from

16v, a few bolt ons, a decent clutch some decent suspension, a good seat and steering wheel...take your time

    good luck
