Hey guys,
I was wondering if there has been anyone out there put 2ZZ-GE into ae86 ??

78's
It is? Why's that? Makes pretty good power.
LOL @ Dimitri... we covered this last time we spoke.. personally from what i've seen they seem very highly tuned/light... looks weak... but that is exactly what everyone said about the 4AGE when they first saw it.. they were used to seeing the 2TG/3TG/18RG... which are the grandaddy of toyota twincam 4 cylinders..
personally i think if your fiddling around with one and you don't get small cuts all over your hands your doing good! everything is machined! and i like them.. and haven't heard anything actually going wrong with them.. despite thier looks.. i can't think of a sportivo rolla or celica throwing a leg out of bed unless it has missed a few services, clogged up the oil pickup spun a bearing and died.. but thats the owners dumb fault..
They can take a massive flogging as seen in the racing Lotus's.
Exige model that is.
I just thought these engines were really expensive, that is why no one would put them in ? what other cars have them ?
Toyota Celica SS-II (Japan, 190 hp), Toyota Celica GT-S (180 hp), Toyota Corolla Sportivo (Australia, 182 hp), Toyota Corolla Compressor (Europe, 215 hp), Toyota Corolla XRS (USA, 170 hp), Toyota Corolla Fielder Z Aero Tourer (Japan, 190hp), Toyota Corolla Runx Z Aero Tourer (Japan, 190hp), Toyota Matrix XRS, Pontiac Vibe GT, Lotus Elise (USA), Lotus Exige (UK)
Thank wikipedia,
The negatives I know of this motor are that they have a propensity to bend exhaust valves in competition use, they bent so many of them in the old GT Production series that Toyota ended up listing stainless exhaust valves as a "stock item" to get around the rules. I personally have broken a 2ZZ, oil surge at 8,000rpm going around a bend after a toyota service 1500kms before, the oil level was low and it ended up spinning #1 & 4 big ends. Result, brand new short motor from Toyota required. The engines are unable to be overbored (unless you change the liners) as there is nil room between the cylinders, and they use metal matrix bores. I have many photos of one disassembled if anyone is interested.
From a performance aspect, I have driven a ZZT231 celica as a daily driver for around 3 years now, the engine is phenomenal compared to a 4AG, when the 292deg "big" cam kicks in they haul, and you can putt it around like a corolla at normal speeds without it being annoying. Can't say the same for the gearbox though, almost all C-series FWD gearboxes are junk, they wear synchros out at a ridiculous rate. In an AE86 they would be a great engine, as they are lighter than the 4AG, physically smaller and have stable low down torque and a big end kick. Obviously there are a number of challenges to face physically mounting the engine in an 86, such as no RWD gearbox existing, etc. but with enough cash it would be a very successful transplant.
Omg, this got me thinking an i started to search the net for a 2zz-ge powered ae86 to see if it had been done before and found this,
sorry if its a repost but its the first ive seen of it, i know a little bit off topic but thought it was worth sharing.
Well sounds like better choice of engines then 4age, so why arnt they in ae86s ???
