You can remove the entire engine without removing the gearbox. I normally remove the fan/hub and there is plenty of room. Just undo all of the bellhousing bolts and clutch cover bolts and it is all down hill from there.

im currently doing a 4A-C to 4A-GE conversion and i was wondering if it is possible to remove the 4A-C without taking the gearbox with it, i was told that the spline is too long therefore i need to remove the gearbox with the 4A-C.. just need to get this cleared before i start taking out the 4A-C tomorow thanks guys

thanks mate![]()
the trick is to undo the gearbox mounts + exhaust first, let the whole package lean down and then use a 1 meter extension bar to get to the top two bolts of the bellhousing from under the car, otherwise they are a real shit. The do back up the gearbox mount and leave it

you can do it, but why would you want to?
it's easier to change the engine if you pull it out with the gearbox.
as someone who did it this way, of removing the engine with out the gearbox...
i would STRONGLY suggest taking it out with the gearbox
it would make it sooooooooooooooooooooo much easier.
we struggled for quite the number of hours getting only those 6 gearbox bolts just because the tight squeeze the 4ac has.
just drain the gearbox, dissconnect the driveshaft, undo the mounts and it should all pop out
wel guys i finally removed the engine leaving the gearbox in, i found it easy, except for that dam bolt at the top drivers side.. gotta love the rattle guns![]()
