    ok guys.

dont know if this topic has been covered but, for drifting would having more torque be better ofr dirfting?
torque is the force that which spins the wheel right?? means more smoke yeah?

and also can one tune a 20valve to have more torque instead kw .

if anyone has a link they know off that might explain this to me. thatll be cool.

cause i memba reading torque and kw are sort of inline with each other.

Put it this way, low to mid range torque is good for drift. Power is good for keeping the wheels lit while sliding etc..

Depending on the cams and other things you can get big torque without too much kw.

That's always the way I understood and looked at it. I prefer torque over power.

Firsty if you want fully hectic smoke.....go buy a commodore and one wheel burn out every where.

If you want some quick torque go grab a turbo and bolt that on......or pour your money into head work, cams, higher compression rate etc....and you will have a good responsive hachi.

I think the question is also about what is a good kw to torque ratio for drift. Im also curious about what people think about the ammount of torque to power that would be good for driving in the hills. I'd imagine for going up hill at least, as long as you had "enough" power for the job torque might be more important. But then coming back down too much torque might make things a bit scary.

    Relationship between torque and power

If a force is allowed to act through a distance, it is doing mechanical work. Similarly, if torque is allowed to act through a rotational distance, it is doing work. Power is the work per unit time. However, time and rotational distance are related by the angular speed where each revolution results in the circumference of the circle being travelled by the force that is generating the torque. This means that torque that is causing the angular speed to increase is doing work and the generated power may be calculated as:

Mathematically, the equation may be rearranged to compute torque for a given power output. However in practice there is no direct way to measure power whereas torque and angular speed can be measured directly.

Consistent units must be used. For metric SI units power is watts, torque is newton-metres and angular speed is radians per second (not rpm and not even revolutions per second).

also got to think where you are going to make all you power, no use haveing fuck off big turbo and spooling at 7g and making million kw and having only 1000rmp of usable power

Interesting question indeed. Umm, torque is good, power is better. If you have torque to get the drift started (4AGZE here as an example), you still need the power to spin the wheels and hold the slide. If you look at Tony Harrisons V8, this is a perfect example of this. No need for handbrake, just big scando flick and then put your foot down. Torque is important from the start...then you need the power to take over, the closer the two are in the rev range, the less exciting the car will be to drive because all you will be doing is grabbing another gear.

torque is the raw force to spin ur wheels. pwr basically indicates how much potential torque u can access.

low torque, hi pwr --> u can accerate ur car slowly but longer at each gear, e.g. vtec engine, in this case the car's weight(civic) must be mininized to get the best acceration

hi torque, low pwr --> accerate fast but soon u will have to shift gear up to maintian the speed as not much pwr left

low torque, low pwr --> good for both beginner and advanced drivers, drives safe for beginners but chanllenge to perform advanced drifting skills

hi tqr, hi pwr --> 2 fast 2 ferious
