4AGE engine differences

So i know a little about 4AGEs right, and in future i hope to do a conversion with one.
The thing is i dont know what makes the differences in stock power on these engines.
I would like the fastest 4AGE but they are harder to find etc, this is so i dont have to be going backwards in terms of speed from the ST162 i currently own. Then again I wanted the smallport becasue if the 7 rib bottom end.

A mate tells me the power differences come from the ECU, which i'd be getting aftermarket anyway so i should just be getting any 4AGE becasue they will all make same power....

Which engine is best for this conversion? And the cheapest.

search and you shall find. before even thinking of power. what sort of drving will you be doing? answer that first then you can work on power and how to archive it.

if you want to beat habib next to you and be fully sick then go either 4agze convert to 4agte.
or if you want to keep up, or be like takumi then go 4age smallport n/a heavliy tuned or 20v n/a.

bahahahhaha mad reply man...couldn't have said it better i don't think...i'm in this particular position...i'm stuck with choosing what engine to put in my 86...sr20det or 4agze...my heart tells me 4agze but my pride says sr20det...*sigh*

Redsprinter - Dont be a dick, you've totally missed my point..... dont post in threads until you read them thoroughly.

Also i have searched, and maybe im not typing in the right key words, but so far i havent even found close to what i am searching for, i want to keep it NA which is why i havent suggested the 4AGZE/TE motors and i hardly think that the people on this site with GZE or GTE motors got their power just to be "fully sick"

If anyone has any constructive comments feel free to post! and just in case anyone else didnt understand my post, i am asking what makes the differences in the 4AGE series of engines, and which would be the best option to choose from.

do u know why do u want a 7 rib block? the smallport has the highest kw rating but they r old and prob dont have the 100kw figure they would of had fresh and the 20v is exp to convert to rwd. check out the billzilla site for ur 4age info then decide

i'd have to say.. to keep it NA. i'd go for a smallport 100kw motor.. you get the good bottom end.. bigger big ends, oil squirters etc.. better head design (compared to the bigport).. and you can buy one like i did for $200 with a blown head gasket, and build it from the bottom up.. you know what exactly is going in there.. and your not going to run into the rwd 20v conversion hassles.. yes they are easier now because people make the parts to save time/money..

but my smallport runs door to door with most 20v's and it sounds better

next step is cams.. as it sits, i only got 2 runs in down the quater just so i could gauge how quick it was compared to stock.. or even 20v's etc.. and my 2nd pass was 15.51.. first pass was a gay 15.8.. but i think i might have gone a fraction quicker if i had another one..

plus with the smallport you don't have to worry about water housings dizzy etc etc.. its all good!

matty i agree with every point you made just then, but in the 20v's defence, in standard form it will keep up with your 16V that has a bit of work done to it (as you said).
the things i love about em is, there newer, one of the strongest 4a's, fairly quick in standard form, and if you fuck one you dont have to worry about building up another worked 16v, ya just throw in another one for $500.

the dizzy and the water housings for the 16v are fine to use as they are on the fwd... even those longer ones at the back of the head.. where as the 20v needs the firewall modification for the dizzy, and the water housing at the back of the head.. or DLI converter.. and milled billet ally housing.. Ant does kits for this i belive.. but no where near as easy as 16v...

ae86 slide.. tru yes it is tru that the 20v is a better $ for hp investment.. as far as you need not to modify it much to whip 16v's...

but what i was meaning was that i would much preffer a rebuilt 16v, that you are establishing the history on.. rather than some young punk in japan, who never services his car, writes it off, and you get his front cut.. looks good on the outside.. but you have no idea about the engine history etc.. and as i mentioned... lack of matenance is a huge killer on the modern high strung 4 bangers....
