i have a 16 in mine and it goes alright as it only an 86kw version but i have a 20v to go in it but if you want a really smooth conversion go a 16v or if you arte willing to fuck around with the coling system the 20v would be the way to go IMO

dont want to be a prick but this topic has been covered heaps.

but since you asked here is what i have gather from reading every post there is from the www.

sr20det- good for torque= good for drifting. tho youll kill yourself if inexperince. and lots of money and fucking around lets say about 6k-10k or more. good for drifitng and 1/4

ca18det- likes to rev, half decent engine and if built right can pull pretty hard. youll be looking about the same sort of money to the sr mayb cheaper. good for drfiting and 1/4

4agze- like the to above tho easier to bolt in. and also when you get bored of the s/c put on a turbo. heaps cheaper mayb 4-6k for a conversion. good for drifting

2ov- revs like rabbit on heat. bang for buck for n/a power. you can get it side ways. and advance driver will love finding and holding on to the sweet spot. good for touge

4age- oh my god, easy as pie to bolt in youll love to rev it. has enough power to have fun in it. and cheap as hell anywhere from 3-4k max i reckon .

but before alll this ask your self what you want to do with the car first. hope this helps man.

oh and alot of this info is just brief.

3SG(T)E should be put in the 'too hard'basket.

CA18DET - Spun bearings, anyone? Plus it's a nissan truck motor Seriously though, they make good power, but are getting too unreliable with age. they are a good bolt in for the nissan boys because it's exactly that: A bolt in job. Buy any series 3 bluebird and you can bolt a CA18 right in. But wiring it up and the like make it not worth the effort to put in a sik toyota.

4AGE - prolly your second best option if you can't afford a GZE. Makes the car a whole lot more fun to drive, and slide for tha matter. I'm lining one up for my car (which shall not be mentioned) because i'm pov. Goes hard, cheap as chips, lots of modding potential. AND! the best bit! it's straight bolt in! well, not quite... but close enough to.

4AGZE - FTW. blow away habib and have more than enough power underfoot. same good points as the 4age, however the higher power and torque this motor produces is offset by higher price. alternatley you can get some brackets and pipework made up and just drop an SC12 or SC14 supercharger on an atmo 4AGE.

    4ac turbo?? BAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHA........
    bahahahhaaaaa
    ahahaa
    ha.

Sorry, had to do it. It's an absolutley downright ghetto conversion. J-pipe from the exhaust manifold to the turbine housing... suck through carb.... a 2nd hand hitachi turbo.... that's about it. oh... maybe a 90 degree pipe bend or two, and an adaptor plate to bolt onto the inlet manifold. This conversion is absolutley dirt cheap! less than 1.5k TOPS. The only problem is finding the carby... it's a Zenith item from a Sigma Turbo... hrm... not very many of them made yo. Although there is some fair potential with this setup. Lawson (truenosedan) is making 97.8kw ATW with his. And he isn't running a boost-ignition retard setup, so there is power to be had.

4ag 20v Revs like nobody's business. Seriously. makes crazy atmo power. Quad throttles FTW! however, because the engine is designed for Front Wheel Drive, one of the cooling system outlets is on the back of the motor and fouls on the firewall when converted to RWD. Some people on ae86dc (can't remember names, sorry guys!) sell kits to fix this problem, however. once you get around that, enjoy the power (and noise)!

sr20det Truck motor. same pros and cons as the CA, however has better reliability doe to the fact it's newer. however they cost alot because they are in high demand, always. you will need to do custom engine mounts to fit it in, the gearshifter position moves back about 5-9cm? from memory. and the trans tunnel has to be modified. They have significant tuning potential though, for a truck motor. and that exhaust note... eeeeewwwwwwwwww....

DISCLAIMER All of this is in my opinion.

the pros and cons are here, now decide for yourself.

    Javal.
You can have any brew you want... as long as it's a Datsun / Corolla / What is that?

if its your first. stick to some type of 4age. simple as that.

for 6k you should be able to do a really nice 20v or gze pretty easily.

im deleting/editing hauls posts and some other that petain to it. i really feel your not speaking from experiance. first hand or otherwise.

3sge conversion is envolved. and you also defintaely add complexity if it turbo. there are way more packaging issues ect.

if youre interested in 3sg(t)e conversions, search toymods.net, also definately hit the link to the old forums toymods.org.au, there is alot of info on that subject there.

i thought 4agze could be done pretty cheaply?

other than relocating the intercooler/piping, engine mounts, modify supercharger cradle, relocate alternator/ thermo what is much different to a 4age swap (plus clutch also neede when doing 4ag swap)??

you answered your own question. thats alot of shit. plus the factory management (afm type) is unreliable. and the engines are expensive.
