Is the 044 an intank efi fuel pump? Ideally you want a low pressure lift pump leading to the surge tank and then an external high pressure one to the engine. The VL or Bosch one will do fine for an external but if the 044 is an intank efi pump, i'd look at getting rid of the surge tank setup and modifying the tank with baffles. If you decide to stick to the surge tank setup... just make sure the lift pump can flow at least the same amount as the external pump otherwise you'll run the surge tank dry.
