Teaching in Japan

So ive got an interview with Nova corp. in sydney next week.

I'm planning on spending next year over there teaching English.

the interview sounds pretty scary, mostly cos they'll be checking out my uni transcript which is shithouse.

any of you done it or looked into it? got any tips or advice that could help me? both in securing a spot, and what to expect regarding conditions and expenses?

I'm doing my course through seek learning, my boyfriend and I are going over in 2008 to teach English

if your under 30 you dont really need a uni degree try teach international .they seem like the best bet

With seek, they find a job for us over there, cover the bond on our apartment, cover our air fares and everything, plus coz m 19 i don't need uni and im doing the course online via correspondence. I shopped around a fair bit and this was the best one for us, plus because my boyfriend and i are both doing it, we are getting about 40% off both, like a bulk buy thing

When I was there last year I stayed with a new zealand dude who I met in a surf comp .
Turned out he was an english teacher ..who completly winged it (no qualifications) and scored a job ..He told me its easy as to get work and teaching basic english need no previous schooling .
He had an awsome life over there ..heaps of time off and was on pretty good coin . Told me to come over and He'd get me work peice of piss .
I've been considering it ever since .

first step is trying to make a decent impression at this interview i guess. but yeah, nova is the first company ive applied to, so ill check out the others you've all mentioned, and then worst case scenario ill get desperate and try winging it, cos i am dead set going over next year no matter what.

need a change of scenery, not to mention decent pay. so yeah, thanks again. any tips on the really formal interviews and how to approach them would be ace too.

You only really need the uni degree to get a full time working passport. Without a degree youre only allowed to work part time, but I'm sure some people wouldnt mind employing you full time. But that wont be a problem for you. Another good thing to have is a TESOL or ESL certificate. The course doesnt teach you shit tho so you may as well just make up a fancy certificate and find someone to print it.
I'm teaching in China at the moment and I'm on about the equivilent of doctors salary. I heard the salary in Japan is decent but nothing special. If you're interested in China I can tell you about what its like here.

some uni teacher emailed me to do something like that in japan... i declined it... (very stoopid move)

since i really like traveling to japan one day and work there for a few years or so.. and since everyone is thinking of doin it, now im thinking of really doin it too..
