Come on guys soom thoughts would be great
Guy I drove my car to adelaide to day. When I got into stop start traffic the lift pump stopped lifting fuel. I knew it had stopped because it started making a clacking sound. Once the surge tank was empty and the efi pump started struggling to get fuel ( I could hear this also) the blockage cleared and every thing was fine. This happened twice on the way to adelaide and once on the way back.
I'm thinking its because I've blocked off the breather pipe from the fuel tank. So some sort of weird pressureizing is going on.
Am I on the right track or should i be looking into making sure I 've got the pipes connected the right way around.

It could well be your lift pump is on its way out and just stops intermittently. Or you have dirt and crap floating around in your tank which occasionally gunks up your lift pump?
Do you have a filter before your lift pump?
I doubt it is a pressurisation problem or lines round the wrong way problem.

?????????
No filter before the lift pump. I did clean out the tank before putting it all back together
any other ideas
how old is the pump? put a low pressure filter there.. they are only like $4! of use a Z200 if you have 8mm lines.. there a high pressure filter.. 8mm in out.. straight through.. about $8...
Pump is new, yeah I'll try a filter
In all seriousness it would take a shit load of gunk to cause a lift pump to stop and start like that. It isnt gunk.
You have a wire/power problem. Are you using decent wire (i mean not small ass speaker wire)
Are all you terminals clamped properly, especially earths..
Insert witty comment here....
The pump isn't stoppping completely, it just stops lifting fuel
