Stuffed solenoid? This happened in my ae82 and i nearly cooked it!!!!!
Look in the engine bay fuse box and their should be a round metal thing (or cubish black thing) labeled as fan something or other ( sorry for the technical jargon). Anyway sneak down the street and steal another like it from a nieghbours car (or parent or housemates) and put it in and see if that fixes it.
Other wise might be a fuse, bad earth, stuffed thermostat(this would mean that your heat guage wouldn't work either)
Or it could be littlegreen gremlins. In which case the best solution is to get a couple of those bug bomb cans, set em off and shut the bonnet on em(works best in a confine non airy place. Knocks the little buggers dead!
