Heys, my conversion got finished about a week ago, but my waterpump off the silvertop is leaking pretty bad..

I was told this wasnt too uncommon in imported engines, because the seals sit there for a while harden and crack when used again. I was told to just replace the darn thing, but thats about $160 down the drain and a fair wait. I was wondering if this has happened to any of you guys and what you guys suggest that i do?

Should i juss fark what the mech told me and reseal the pump, or just grin and bear it and buy the brand new pump? Is there any other alternatives i have?

    Thanks,
    Ray

Oh is there any complications when using a 16v pump? (read the offset is slightly different) and whats the difference between the fwd and rear wheel drive pump on the silvertop?

May be interested matty shop, just checkin my alternatives..

they sell new 16v water pumps on ebay for about $60

You could reseal it but it might start leaking anytime soon depending on how flat and straight the part line surfaces are, new replacement parts are always good especially when it comes to your cooling system!

RWD pumps have the thermostat housing bolted on to it but still has the same bolt pattern when for the 20v, I used my 4ac pump for a while... im sure the 16v pump fit can anyone confirm this?

But they have run a different pully.
And even if you swap to a 20v pully it isnt going to line up correct.

Please correct me if im wrong anyone.

the 16V FWD pump front half is the same offset as the 20V front half. I am currently running a 4AC rear thermo housing and a 16V FWD pump using a 20V crank pulley and alternator and it all lines up perfectly. There are differences in the bits that the cam covers line up with, but who cares.

DONT use the front half of a RWD pump unless you use the corresponding RWD crank pulley.

I would simply go and buy a new water pump, resealing them is a waste of time for the sake of $60 (16V FWD ebay) or $150 (Genuine 20V) pump when you have buggerise around pulling the Timing belt, etc. off to get at it.

my pump recently started to leak after not driving the car very often... it is a 4age rwd pump. does this mean I can get a new fwd 4age pump and make it close enough to rwd with what I have got? (actually just thinking about it, i might be running a 4ac pump currently.)
