Ok so im lookin at buyin my first car in about 6 months and its gonna be an AE86, but i dont wanna buy a dud so i was jus wonderin if u AE86 Gurus could give me some advice on what to look for...things like common rust spots and things to look for around the engine bay. Thanks in advance for all your help
And i forgot to add i will have $3000-5000 to spend
keep in mind cracked dash and rip in drivers seat comes stock no days, rust are in usual spots in 86s the hatch, door jams and above the wheel arch on the rears i guess?

if you have 5k to spend get a 4age
oh and steering wheel shakes around 100k's is normal.
yeh i agree with monk for 5k u can get a decent stock 4age. just build up suspension urself =).. what will u be using it for? daily?
yeh she will be my daily mainly, but i wouldnt mind goin up to some of the Drift Practice days at QR, i dont mind havin an uncumfy daily either so suspension will be pretty stiff when i do it
same boat mate. 5k will get u a 4age implanted adm spoontang. just shop for the one with the best work done to the body and suspension. if u r in no rush, just wait for the one to impress u best. try to get the straightest one wit 4age and preferably a brake and susp upgrade. keep in mind paint and kits are easy done, so dontbother hunting one wit those.

check for dodgy wiring and engine installs.
also in the very bottom of the rear quarter panels, behind the bumper. i got tricked into thinking my 86 was rust free.
yeh rust is the main thing im worried about
