I have decided to go all out "light weight" route in my AE71 4AC so the air con has to go. I know of the core in front of the radiator and the air con motor and piping but i have a few questions.

How do I remove the Air conditiong motor from the front of the engine? Can i just cut the belt it runs off and then take it off (unbolt it from the motor)?

Secondly, what is involved in removing the air con from under the glovebox and how do i dispose of the gas? I dont want the gas to unexpectedly piss everwhere as im sure it isnt healthy!

Any help would be awsome, cheers!

technically you can get a massive fine for letting off aircon gases to the atmosphere... but if you crack one of the pipe nuts and run away till all the gas is released then removing the rest is easy.

or you could pay someone lots of money do de-gas it for you.

R12 is the bad gas R134A is not as bad. being an 80's car it could be either look for a blue sticker somewhere in the engine bay that has aircon details on it and 134a in the background.

ther will be 2 fittings with schroder valves in them (like a tyre valve) i would let them "down" like you would a tyre, just use a screw driver or something. you should only have high pressure on one side, but do both to be sure.

like you said ditch the belt and unbolt the compressor, lose the condensor off the front, lost the 2 hose/pipes tha go to the firewall.

in the car remove the glovebox and you'll see a big black box that the two firewall fittings go in to, if you know what i mean. take it out and remove the evaporator (looks like a mini intercooler!!) now you can put the empty box back in or you can source from the wreckers the tube that joins the 2 and does away with the big box. from memory i think someone has said you can use non aircondtioned AE71 and KE70 tubes plus some other early toyota models.

No as Gilly says, pick up the tube that runs between the heater core box and the heater fan out of a KE70/AE71 without aircon etc etc. While you are there, get the side of the heater core box as well as that is what the tube slides onto. factory. You need a functioning heater and therefore demister for your roadworthy. No pipe, no blow.

thats and easy fix, just get a non a/c joiner out of a ke70/ae71 (it connects the heater to the fan) inplace of the ac unit.

Off topic: Actually r134a is worse for global warming. r12 just destroys the ozone which eventually regenerates itself..
