vl bonnet, i cant see why it would be illegal. but its one of those personal things where it would really depend on the engineer... You arnt interfeering with crumple zones, thats the main issue cleared, but i think you would have a tough time with visibility of headlights and indicators..

rear coilovers, i'm making my rear coilovers. modified from tein s13 fronts. sounds a bit dodge but its surplus parts i've had to work with. conventional s13 mounts have been removed with a mounting eye welded to the bottom. coilover sleeves cut off and rewelded much lower. shock bolts to tower as normal, spring rests on the chassis. full height adjustment, does away with the normal spring.

some people seem to think theres a strength issue with the lower shock mount. some people are idiots.

the same as these. pictured ones are for gx71/mz11 etc

Oh and the shocks on the car in the artcile, i'm pretty certain they are R32 fronts. Seems to be a popular conversion also

We approached a few engineers.. there where at least 3 separate ADR's the long nose didn't meet.

-The main concern was pedestrian safety.
    -Obvious headlight issue.
-Something about bonnet protruding past the bumper.

In the end it was going to be easier to locate factory bonnet and guards and swap over for compliance and rwc. Not a huge hassle considering the hotness involved.

Maybe looking a Boso van as a possible tax write-off.. If anyone has any more good pics or links to any for sale please post up!

    This seems pretty good value

It depends how "JDM" you really want to be. You could buy a cressida, then do paint, wheels, suspension for 1/3rd that amount EASY.

but its still a boring old aussie-delivered car

Dont get me wrong, the GX71's are hot cars, and if you've got the chips to through around, sure go and buy one with all the work done.

Hell yeah I'd rather import a yankee GX71!!
Bank account + ADR says otherwise...

What can I say, I'm a JDM fan boy I think the pillar arrangement makes alot of difference.. Same with Cressida vs X81's

+ Jap guardwork owns Aus guardwork From what I've seen at least.. Except for maybe josh youngs hachi.

Are you making up those bells shaped coilover adapters for your set up? Since im thinking of running S13 running gear in the front maybe ill be able to some how run the rears like that picture, although I don't have a issues about strength with the lower shock mount - I think the upper shock mount is where the problem lies, but one of those bell shaped adapters would distribute the load alot better. I guess it would be a lot like how you run rear coilovers in an AE86 with a little bit of strengthening of the upper mounts.

And I can understand the problems you would face getting that GX71 over here, but I guess if you got a standard one, or one with air dam, spoilers, and wheels etc… and then when it was in Australia and regeo'd you could perform your own long nose conversion. And agreed Cressida's just aren't the same. The closest Cressida in Australian to the Japanese one is the MX30, its pretty much the same car. If you're a member of toymods a while back I posted this thread since I was considering a Cressida  I got a heap of yankee pics there.

if you look at most of the boso cars they pretty much share the same kits, air dams, spoilers etc... and theres no real kits for most of those cars anyway, if you look back a couple of pages theres a link to a yahoo auction site that sells boso parts thats pretty much universal for every car. if your maxima is the one im thinking of (pillaress FWD looks like y31 cedric/R31 skyline) then boso parts on it might come up really well

p.s. gsand nice post on the ehaust pics.

i think we might have to start a forum of our own for "aus boso" hell yeah... and have threads decated to different mods like what you have there. hahahah

I'll have to test it out, but i will try and get away without making those bell shaped things, and just having the spring against the body, with some rubber insulators. I havent sussed out the strength in this area, but i think it should suffice.

otherwise i'll just have to continue with cut junkyard springs, its the shocks that will really make it worthwhile. these are no problem to fit.

a good example of using the chassis.
