Here is a shit pic of how it works:
1. Genereally you have to have a faster entry speed that what you would if you were to just handbrake into the corner. It helps to start with a shallow corner entry. Ignore the red lines (tyre direction) on image 1, they should be pointing forward.
2. The way it works is as you steer and brake you shift the weight of the car forwards at an angle to the corner. The blue arrow marked on the car is the momentum direction of the REAR of the car. As you can see at 2. the car begins turning in, shifting the weight of the car to the front left hand wheel. At this point some mild braking will SLOW the front of the car, whilst the momentum of the rear is still in the direction of the blue arrow, thus with enough speed and the right amount of braking...and the right timing, the rear should continue in its direction of momentum and begin to oversteer. Therefore the car will basically pivot.
3, 4, 5. As with any slide once you're mid corner, control steering and throttle and exit the corner.
This entry technique will favour a car with a 2way lsd and a decent suspension setup. This is also easy to do with an open wheeled car, but hard to do with a locker.
make sense?

^^ i would highly reccomnd you try these things on a track dude.
There are regular track days at mallala that only cost about $70, beleive me, it will cost you less in the long run...
I would also reccomend learning with a handbreak first.... just fix your rear breaks...

^^^ Agreed.
Dangerous technique to learn on the road, and its not very possible on the dirt as you will generally lock up the front and understeer instead of oversteer.
Track for learning to slide and learn techniques FTW.

im not that stupid. i am plannin on tyrin the harder n faster techniques on the track once i get brakes and sort out a few things. i only have the occasional slide on the street (like every normal person)
