piss the thermo fan off.. and use a clutch fan.. like that of a JDM 86.. or 4ac... try it.. you'll be suprised..

have you flushed your entire cooling system with a good radiator flush? and what type of coolent are you using.. make sure it's a good coolant, and not a 'corrosion inhibitor'

Have you checked the radiator itself? , could be a slight block in there somewhere not letting enough water get through. Also as what matty said, put some good coolant, if you just buy some concentrated one and mix it up they are all pretty good, normally try to stay way from the premix cheapies as they can do damage to new cars

this is not a new car though.. run a good flush to descale the whole system and get some nulon red long life coolant or something like that..

but there are radiator treatments out there that are green/red that have cool etc written on the packet.. for example Nulon Ultra cool.. it's fluro green.. yet in the fine print on the back states it is not a coolant, and doesn't raise the boiling point at all.. etc etc.. so make sure you don't get shit like that..

i was running a stock AE86 radiator in my old 86.. (befor the oil cooler was added) heaps of timing.. and i live up here in QLD.. never had any dramas with over heating cos i flushed the entire system to the best of my ability and i just so happen to have a stock pile of toyota genuine long life coolant so thats all i use..

did you check the thermo fan was wired in the correct way, and was actually drawing air through rather than pushing it away? I would also pull the radiator out and get it flushed at the local radiator shop.

interesting...... mine has the stock 4ac rad... half of the fins missing, the stock engine fan with a blade or 2 missing and no shroud and it never gives me any overheating problems... always sits at normal temp... and maybe halfway on really warm days... then again... not too sure I trust the stock temp gauge 100%
    (JDM 4age)
still want to get a new rad and fan though..... and a decent temp gauge lol

Depends on the pre mixed coolent, if its a real cheap and nasty one they can actually only be suited for cars pre 80 model, Genreally I recommend the nulon range to people either red or green depending on what they want to spend. I think its the best value for money coolent out there at the moment

I am using the jdm clutch fan aswell. Ive run 2 bottles of muckowt radiator cleaner stuff through it and it came up clean. The radiator in the car is the old one out of my drift car which had a 4agze and had no cooling issues!

how much timing are you running?? check base timing.. knock a bit out of it.. say 17-19 deg base timing..

what type of coolant are you running if any?

I REALLY doubt it is a coolant issue. I've run straight water before and had no cooling issues with a smaller than stock (though slightly thicker) radiator and single dodgy thermofan.

I'd be looking for airlock issues, crap in the radiator/piping, pump or thermostat (though you say they are new, I'd double check them anyway). Also make sure that the system is set up properly so you get coolant flow past the thermostat even while it is closed. Otherwise it will never open.
